The new owner of Sampdoria was a consortium led by a former Italian representative, Gianluca Vialli.
The majority of the club's shares belonged to the 67-year-old Massimo Ferrero. Italy has long claimed that the club is not for sale. However, he quickly changed his mind when an attractive offer appeared. Italian media reported that new owners bought Ferrero shares for € 140 million.
