Mail Call (and a solid One-Upping!!!)

Hola friends!

So after a couple weeks of enjoying the status of:

Unanimous, Undisputed Champion of the One-Up

I’ve had some young upstart set me back on my ass! That’s right, with the most brief of turn-arounds yet — what a spinning kick! — ol’ D-fin has landed a wallop right in the sweet spot! That’s right, this morning when i went to my PObox there was a nice little package waiting for me there, and it looked like this:

Woo hoo!!! A parcel from @dfinney!!! Well i know any parcel from an SSG member is gonna’ be good, but i am especially intrigued by this one since it will be the 4th round in this happy game. The last move i pulled was a 1 1/2 ounce Arctic Fox delivered squarely to D-fin’s mailing addy. Well, she took it like a pro, and responded with this doozy from out of her bag of tricks!

I always like the personal touch of a handwritten note 😁 and looky, looky loo...

A pack of false moustaches and a new hat!!! Y’Arrr!!! ...just what the pirate ordered! Those moustaches will come in handy for disguising me and Leon when we next go out Maurading, and the new hat will look dandy when next formal attire is called for!

So what be in here?

Avast! It looks to be a shimmering platter that is much larger than a usual coin or round...hmmmm... i’d better get elvis’ knife out for this operation!

BOOM!

What an awesome round!!! 2oz of the finery and a totally awesome design! This is a round from the Washington State Pavillion from Vancouver’s Expo 86 — it’s 32 years old! Yikes!!! I remember working at Expo 86...i was 16 years old and had the job of setting up chairs (and striking them) for performances at the “Plaza of Nations.” It was an awesome summer job. I got a full free pass for the event and after a few practice runs, our group could set up and/or strike the chairs in about 30 mins. So the whole time the performances were going on we were free to go and check out whatever we wanted... such good times! And now i have a gorgeous memento from those times, but also, a beautiful gift from a much more recent involvement. D-fin, I LOVE THIS ROUND!!!

Furthermore, i lived in Whiterock, BC for a couple of years in the 80’s (with me Ma) and i still go there frequently, and the Peace Arch (in Blaine, Washington) can be seen from much of Whiterock, and certainly from all of the beach. As well, ever since i walked through this structure as a kid, i always liked the fact that there were gates inside the structure with the inscription: may these gates never be closed. Hear hear!!!

So even though i have been beaten-up good this round, and D-fin can claim to be the new Heavier-Weight Champion of the “One-Up,” betwixt ourselves that is, i am not down for the count! I shall sit back in my corner, take on some water (or maybe a dram of grog), put some ice or a frozen 5bar on my blackened eye and try to huff and puff as best i can for a few minutes. However, i am a resillient player, and an allusional looter, so i will keep my one good banana peeled (lofl!) and try to espy a suitable retort to wield when next the bell peals!
