Coin Certificate

The accompanying coin certificate reads:

Certificate of Authenticity

This is to certify that the 1997 sterling silver $10 commemorative coin is one of just 14,000 struck by the Royal Australian Mint. This legal tender piedfort proof coin has been individually struck from a carefully prepared blank, following the Royal Australian Mint's strict quality standards. Its highly polished background complements the delicately frosted design.

South-eastern Red-tailed Black Cockatoo

Calyptorhynchus banksii graptogyne

In bush folklore, the cry of the Red-tailed Black Cockatoo is reputed to herald rain - making them a welcome sight in rural Australia. Found in eucalypt woodlands or along water courses, the south-eastern subspecies has been reduced to a fragmented population of fewer than 1000 birds, and is threatened by the clearing of the trees in which they nest. Illegal bird trappers are also thought to be reducing the numbers of this attractive bird.

Ohh that a nice one. I think it’s be great to get all these as a set.

I am lucky enough to have the full set of coins. I will release the other coins in the series in future coin unboxing posts. They may be sterling silver, but they have a very high quality finish and very intricate detail in the design. I also have other Piedfort coins from the Royal Australian Mint from the 'Birds of Australia' series. They are beautiful coins, my fav being the 1993 Palm Cockatoo design.
