Vintage Hawai'i Silver Art Bar

in #steemsilvergold6 years ago (edited)
Hawaii has been in the news for several hours now because of the surge of activity of the Kilauea, the longest-erupting volcano on the planet. I remember it erupting when I was 7 years old and still can recall the Pu'u 'O'o's fiery lava fountains.

I thought that it would be an appropriate time to show a birth year silver bar, the
1976 Hamilton Mint Hawaii Silver Art Bar.

On top of the bar appearing like clouds is the map of the main islands of Hawaii (L to R):
  • Ni'ihau, The Forbidden Isle
  • Kaua'i, The Garden Isle
  • O'ahu, The Gathering Place
  • Moloka'i, The Friendly Isle
  • Lana'i, The Pineapple Isle
  • Maui, The Valley Isle
  • Kaho'olawe, The Target Isle (the tiny speck underneath Maui)
  • Hawa'i, The Big Island
  • The face of the bar depicts a female hula dancer in a grass skirt, a man seated on the sand playing a ukelele, a pineapple, and coconut leaves.

The back of the bar is the Capitol Building in Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii, in the island of O'ahu.

On the edge of the bar is inscriber the serial number of the bar, 1757.

Hawaii became the 50th state of the United States on the same month my Mom turned 7 years old.

Hawaii, a U.S. state, is an isolated volcanic archipelago in the Central Pacific. Its islands are renowned for their rugged landscapes of cliffs, waterfalls, tropical foliage and beaches with gold, red, black and even green sands. Of the 6 main islands, Oahu has Hawaii’s biggest city and capital, Honolulu, home to crescent Waikiki Beach and Pearl Harbor's WWII memorials.
  • Capital: Honolulu
  • Statehood granted: August 21, 1959
  • flower: Yellow hibiscus
  • State fish: Reef triggerfish

Much aloha in this post! Hawaii is a magical place for sure! I lived there for 6 months (12 yrs ago...) and think of it often 😁😁😁

Whereabouts did you live for 6 months? Just like our 20 sen Japanese Dragon, we may have crossed paths! And why did you leave?

I lived in Honolulu. Kaimuki by Kahala Mall and then up and over by the University. I left because i was broke, had made few friends, and my two jobs (working for peanuts) did not provide enough $ for me to live the lifestyle i wanted. But i do remember it fondly. And when i was back there in 2013 i had an absolutely fantastic time — even got work on the tv show 5-0 and met McGarret 😎👍

Not there is a very cool bar!! 😎 I would love to visit Hawaii some day! Awesome post my SSFL 👊💗

It is a meaningful bar for me, for sure! You need to go there, feel the tropical breeze... and would it not be so cool if we cross paths when you someday go?

Or I can just go there WITH you 😁

That is a very nice bar of Hawaii and it looks like it has some nice toning. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, they had some great toning. But since I took it out from my holding case for bars and started playing with it, it kindda shined up at bit. I don't know if I should have done that or not, LOL! But I can't help it. In fact my US Constitutional cones are all very shiny, because I handle them so much and always with cotton gloves.

FINALLY! Do you know how many articles I have posted since April 4? Congratulations, my friend. If only I could upvote more than dust $0.01, LOL! BTW, If you come across any Hawaii Silver Bars or Rounds, let me know, K?

On the FIRST question I would have to go back and count. On the Second Question yes I will let you know if I come across Hawaii Bars or Rounds.............@silversaver888

You are being funny. On the first question... it was a rhetorical question. But do go back and count, and while you are at it, upvote that which will provide you and me some benefit, LOL! On the second... THANKS, my friend!

Nice, historic, vintage... very cool bar!

It is a very nice bar, indeed. And for it to be minted in 1976 is like... how cool is that!!!

A beauty of a bar for a beauty of a state. The Hamilton Mint did an excellent job on that bar and I really enjoy the side serialization on them! Really enjoy the iconic imagery they displayed on the bar as well! ALOHA my friend. Thanks for sharing!!

Hawai'i is a most beautiful state. I go as often as I can. It is just a 5 1/2 hr plane ride from here.

Nice vintage silver bar, i haven't seen one like that in a long time.

There are 3 or four Hawaiian inspired bars, and a bit more in rounds. I really should get them all... slowly. THey do come with premiums.

The coconut tree (the leaves in the bar) symbolizes life itself for the Hawaiian people. Lana'i has the largest pineapple platation (well... the largest maze in the world, anyway), and pineapple in Hawaii are grown year-round. The hula has been part of Hawaiian culture since ancient times, and the chants and songs of the hula preserved Hawai'i's history and culture. Now, let me show you my ukeleles!

I really enjoy the fact that within the ways of everyday life all things have meaning. I like the notion that in our environment we see parts of us and our communities and that makes them even more important in so many different ways. Sometimes I forget to reflect on all the good around me and unfortunately get upset. I wish I could keep those pieces front and center at all times. On the same note though would they mean as much if I did not have the bad to compare to. I remember learning about the Hula, however mine was in Orlando but I find it so cool that all cultures use dance to show whats meaningful to them (some more than others). Good jump to the ukuleles! Those are awesome! I am not so musically talented anymore lol, but I always admire fine craftsmanship no matter what it is in. Like the silver I enjoy and my other interest musical instruments take on a life of their own. They become more than just a tool. They become a extension of a person. Gorgeous set you have and if you know how to play then I must applaud your skill!! I appreciate you sharing so much information with me and the awesome ukuleles!! Appreciate it a ton my friend!!

What a bar, lol definitely like the good vibe of the design on it

Yes, really, it has all the good vibes, especially for me, personally. Thank you for stopping by, my friend. I just followed you and look forward to seeing your posts, and seeing you back here! Take care.

I like the new Hawaii 5-0 series but the old one was the best.

I liked the old one, and the new. But the latest crew they have aren't jelling as the original set (the ones in my gif above), don't think so?
