Don't get too comfortable ..
I am a huge supporter of the precious metals community. Some of the best people I have met in this world are a result of sharing this same interest. I can say with out a doubt that I can trust certain individuals in the community more than some of my own family when it comes to finances.
I can honestly say. Due to all of my good experiences. I go into many of my purchases and sales as trusting. .
Most community members have to prove themselves consistently. This is the same on all platforms I am involved in. Which includes Steemit, Facebook, and Instagram.
This week on Instagram. A unique situation occurred. Two long time community members agreed on a private transaction. One of many they have done together. Overall, they have moved six figures between the two of them! The buyer was very comfortable with the seller. Which allowed the seller to take his time packaging and shipping the items. After 2 weeks and many excuses as to why the items haven't shipped. The buyer confronted the seller. Saying that he would expose the seller publically if he didn't follow through with the agreement. The seller then turned around saying, "If you expose me you will not see your items or the $5,000 refund." .
The buyer ended up exposing the seller. The seller has not shipped or made a return.
I want to be clear. The seller has the funds to cover the refund. Or even better, the items he promised the buyer. He is a community member that has a very reputable name! I was honestly blown away to see such a good relationship go south so quick.
The message behind this post: No matter who you are dealing with. There is always a slight chance it may not work out. I would have bet a lot of money this would've NEVER happened between the two of them. Please protect yourself and don't get too comfortable. Life events can happen at anytime. Those events can cause people to act desperate and out of charactor. It's simply a reality that we should consider at all times. .
This is a rare event considering the strong reputations that were involved !

That is really too bad! Ebay and/or PayPal transactions are somewhat safe as PayPal stands behind their guarantee. I've been burned a couple of times, but PayPal has gone to bat for me. I got my money back fortunately.
As @silvertop said, I like to trade on Ebay. I had problems only once and they refunded me in no time.
Valid point. EBay does protect buyers well.
I’ve had a few of them in my many years of collecting. And very similar but no social media back then. But so true of a statement
OK, I got to check this out! You dropping any names or are you going to make me search??
I will message you privately brother.
It happens....I need to be really comfortable to do a private transaction...
This is why most times I always look for Paypal...
I know some will dis...Paypal, but I have been burned several timed online, and I will always get my full refund from them!
Then the go after the seller!!!
Hopefully this doesn't apply to anyone I know.....
I support PayPal for that reason as well. Agreed!
👍😊 Definitely !!!

Great write! That's why things like escrow exist giving folks insurance if need be.

Agreed. Escrow is great! But for two people that have done six figures in business. You would think everything is fine and dandy..
