Absolute beauty

Good afternoon my fellow steemians.... Today I am going to share with you a gorgeous specimen from my collection. This is my favorite half dollar series of the United States Coins by far and is also the famous obverse design of the American Silver Eagle. I am talking about the Walking Liberty half dollar.
The coin that I chose to share with you today is a 1945-D Walking Liberty half dollar. While most of 1940’s coinage was produced in plenty of quantity, this one is of a much lower mintage then the norm and is the lowest mintage of the three mints for 1945. The Philadelphia mint produced over three times the amount of the Denver Mint that year with 31,502,000 coins. The mintage for the Denver Mint was 9,966,800.
The coin I am showing you is a 1945-D which has been graded by PCGS as a MS64. It is in a first generation green holder, which is commonly known by collectors as a rattler holder. This is because the coin holders used in the beginning did not have the tabs like the newer generation holders and allowed the coins to shift around and rattler in the holder. Many of these holders have coins facing in all directions. This one is a little off center as you can see in the photos. These first generation graded coins are also notoriously known to upgrade if sent back in to PCGS. I have personally sent in numerous coins over the years and have been quite successful getting upgrades, which in some cases more then doubled my investment. That is why I am such a sucker for the old green rattler holders. I think that this is a great coin and has excellent detail and luster. It will probably end up going back to PCGS at some point for an upgrade hopefully.

What do you think? Is it a higher grade? Let me know in the comments.

I can't see anything that takes this coin out of the 65. The photo doesn't show us the luster, but I suppose it is OK.

Those old holders are tough to see through, they have a kind of frosty ness to them. Thanks
