More Updates on the Coin 1oz Silver Steem Coin

in #steemsilvergold7 years ago (edited)

I was blown away by all of the interest in a Steem Coin!

After talking with @Phelimint who is a part owner of phelimint.com, we have decided to use them to handle the 1 oz Silver Steem coin.

Phelimint focuses on semi-numismatic coins, which is exactly what we are creating!

Coin Updates

Business Strike

From a pricing perspective and after the overwhelming number of comments for the business strike, we have decided for this first batch to be a business strike.

Back of Coin/Obverse Design

We will have a contest for the Front of Coin/Reverse (more info on this in another post). The Canadian Maple Leaf is a favorite coin among many in the silver community. We took that design and implemented some of its style with the Back of Coin/Obverse side of the coin.

Design Contest

For the Front of Coin/Reverse, we are accepting ideas for the design contest. In a few days, we will gather the ideas and allow designers to design the coin based on this idea or an idea of their own. This Wednesday the design contest will begin and will last for a week. After that the community will vote on which coin design is the favorite of the Steemit user base.

Pricing

After working with the mint, we are able to get the price at 23.50 per coin at current spot prices. Each coin will come with its own unique serial number, COA, and capsule.

However, as most of you know, the price of silver highly fluctuates and over the course of a couple weeks the price of silver can vary widely.

Limited Mintage

This Steemit coin will have a limited mintage of only 1,500 coins.

Updates to Shipping

Canada

All orders with a final destination of Canada will be shipped directly from Phelimint. The shipping rate is $8-18 depending on province since there is no flat rate option.

United States

All orders with a final destination in the United States will be shipped via Priority Mail for $15.

All Other Countries

Due to the high shipping costs from Canada, we are still working on a way to efficiently ship the coins. Our thought is possibly to find certain users in a specific country and have them ship the coins to the users inside that country. This would offset a good portion of the shipping cost, but increases the risk on the shipper.

Payment

@Phelimint is working on being able to accept Bitcoin for payment. They are still a few weeks out from being able to accept BTC, but as it currently stands you should be able to pay with that. This method of payment is preferable for everyone. Phelimint is willing to accept orders by credit card, but you may be subject to higher fees. For those wanting to power down in order to purchase the coins, now would be a good time!

Free Shipping/Bulk Discounts

Depending on the total number of coins ordered from a specific user, we may be able to incorporate a bulk discount or free shipping. We will know more on this once we get closer to the order launch date.

Timeline

It will take approximately 2 months from when the coins are ordered until they are shipped as the art design, die creation, and coin striking each take a few weeks.

Update: After talking with @Andrarchy we had to make a small change. Steemit, Inc. has strict protection using their name, so the coin has been changed to "Steem" instead of "Steemit" since Steem is open sourced.

Put me down for 20. Though I want to see the design before I put anything up on silverstackers.com

I think the limited mintage is a very good idea. You can come out with a new coin and a new design next year if the demand is there, but you won't be eroding any numismatic value by re-minting the same coin.

This coin could mark a piece of history. If you believe in steem and think in 20 years it will be be bigger than facebook and reddit....then this coin is a memento that is worth getting.

Okay cool! We are all hoping one day Steem will begin the #1 social media site in the world! If so, these will definitely have a nice premium to them!

Do you have any designs for the contest that begins tomorrow?

Nah, I don't have any real artistic talent. I know what I like though so I will throw in some votes to help decide :)

Sweet. Thanks for the update.

My username is @coolbowser. You have @ coolbrowser above. Just need to drop the r. Thanks.

Apologies! This has been fixed!!

You're @coolbowser on Steemit.chat, correct?

Yes I am. I signed up for it and have been on it once. But have never really used it.

Sent you a message on there about payment due and ways to pay

Ok. I'll check it out and get back to you.

I would definitely grab a roll (20 I assume). How will you handle the purchase. I'd rather buy outside of Steemit though (no offense, I just don't put personal info out on social sites).

You will purchase and pay through the mint's website using BTC or Credit Card. Of course BTC is better since the fees are lower! Some people are converting their Steem/SBD to BTC and then will pay. The mint is working on accepting BTC now.

Each coin will come in its individual capsule with a serial number on the edge(side) of the coin!

Hey everyone we have an exciting update here! We have purchased the first 1000oz of silver to proceed with the project, this locked in the price quoted at $23.50USD/round (for the first 1000units). We are also starting to take payment for the larger orders. @sevinwilson has been reaching out people and Is currently accepting the Crytpo payments and USD orders. If you want to confirm your 20+coin order in CAD please email us at [email protected]. We will also accept any international orders that are not being paid in crypto, but we do request payment through Transferwise (referral code-for €500 free transfer https://transferwise.com/u/phillipb50) . We are working on acccepting BItcoin orders through our site in the comming weeks for smaller orders. We will also add the coin to the store site tonight for Credit Card payments (just be aware credit card payments will carry an additional fee)

Definitely keen for 10 paid with btc. Following you, and waiting for confirmation you're accepting it.

Resteeming! And probably going to up my order...

Let's do this!!!

...okay, fuck! Put me down for 20. I wanna' be in the big boy group :)

I like where your head is at! You have been moved! :D

I will update my initial order of 10 to 20 coins please
Thanks

Welcome to the "Big Board"

Hello, If the silver price stays under 18 USD I am confirming an order for 10, If it goes over than I will buy 5. Im already over stretched in silver purchasings this year and silver sales have been real lousy. Already confirmed with @phelimint my intention on purchasing 5!
btw, any chance on getting serial numbers stamped on the side(the edge and have a smooth edge?? It would be cool to have one of the first editions too... Will you accept paypal? - I am aware there will be a fee..

Yes the serial number will be on the side of the coin!

I am trying to get a UK group but together to see of we can get a way to cut the costs of shipping but not much joy. I will push this a few more days than confirm my order by the end of the week.

Thanks for the update! Any thoughts on design ideas for the front of the coin?

No idea at all my friend, cant think of a thing. I guess when the time comes and you are holding the contest, you will have to figure a way to do a vote are run a poll. I could help with that except i ave very little rep and dont reach any many people as others.

The contest will begin on Wednesday, but I have been asking a few others to get some thoughts rolling to help some designers and increase the creativity!

Great, i look forward to to it. I might have a go myself if i can find some easy to use software.

I have used pixlr in the past, which is online.

GIMP is another popular one that you can download!

I have used pixlr before myself i very long time ago i a recall correctly. I have 1 week off week so plenty of time to come up with an entry. :D

I like where your head is at! I am excited to see what you come up with!

Put me down for between 1-5, depending on the final price. I'm in the US.

Awesome! I got you down and will keep you updated!
