# 60 - $1 Canadian Commemoratives - Part 3

in #steemsilvergold6 years ago (edited)

This is Part 3 of our "$1 Canadian Commemoratives" series.

We will show you the coins issued in 1979, 1980 and 1981.

The three we are showing today weight 23.3g and are 50% silver and 50% copper.

I know these coins will make at least three members of our community happy. The ship lover, the animal lover and the train lover.

The 1979 "The Griffon Tricentenial" silver dollar commemorates the 300th anniversary of the first voyage by a commercial ship, the Griffon, on the Great Lakes. It has Specimen finish.

The 1980 silver dollar commemorates the 100th anniversary of the transfer of the Arctic islands from the British Government to the Government of the Dominion of Canada. Depicted on the coin is a Polar bear. This is the last $1 commemorative that was issued in Specimen finish.

The 1981 silver dollar commemorates the 100th anniversary of the approval by the Canadian government to build the Trans-Canada Railway. This is the first year of issue by the Mint of two different qualities of silver dollars, the Brilliant Uncirculated finish and the Proof finish.

Awesome. I've been loking at the 50% dollars more and more. The odd time I find them, but as the train lover, I haven't found the '81 locomotive dollar locally yet. But I will some day!

I've always loved the 1980 polar bear dollar, I think it's the lettering font they used. It looks great anyway!

I bought all these $1 commemoratives on Ebay. There are many Canadian dealers that sell them.

Awesome one buddy, lol I wouldn’t be shocked it you had a secret vault for all your silver

My collection is in three different places, in three different countries. The volume would be big if I kept all the cases that come with the coins...
