# 32 - Military in Coins - Part 2

in #steemsilvergold6 years ago (edited)

This second article about "Military in Coins" will be a little different from the previous articles using Modern Commemoratives, issued by the US Mint.

That is because we will see the $.50 commemoratives related to military.

All the $.50 are composed of 91.67% copper and 8.33% nickel and they weight 11.34g.

The first is the 1991-1995 "World War II", issued in 1993 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of America's involvement in World War II. The obverse depicts the faces of a solider, sailor, and aviator looking upward. The reverse depicts a battle scene from the Pacific Islands.

If you go to https://steemit.com/steemsilvergold/@ronaldoavelino/24-america-in-wars-part-1, you will notice that the design of the $.50 coin is different from the design of the $1 coin.

The second is the 1995 "Civil War Battlefields", issued for the preservation of battlefields associated with the Civil War. The obverse features a standing drummer boy. The reverse features a cannon in a battlefield landscape.

The third is the 2011 "Army", issued to celebrate the founding of the United States Army. The $.50 represents “service in peace”. The obverse is a split scene featuring a soldier surveying, two service members building a floodwall, and the Redstone Army rocket used for space exploration. The reverse shows a Continental soldier armed with a musket.

The fourth is the 2015 "US Marshals Service", issued to celebrate the 225th anniversary of the US Marshals Service. The obverse features the image of a US Marshal and a horse from the Old West contrasted with a modern female Marshal wearing tactical gear. The reverse show us Lady Justice, a copy of the United States Constitution, a stack of schoolbooks, handcuffs, and a whiskey jug.
