# 20 - Iconic Places - Part 1

Every country has several places that are historically important for their people.
Thinking about it, the US Mint issued a series of commemorative coins to celebrate what happened or what happens at these places, in America.
We will show you, in a small series, all the Iconic Places that were chosen.

All coins are $1, 90% silver and weight 26.73g.

The first is a 1986 Statue of Liberty, issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the Statue of Liberty. The reverse shows the statue’s hand with a lit torch and the concluding words of Emma Lazarus’s poem "The New Colossus".
The second is a 1991 Mount Rushmore, issued to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the national monument. The reverse is the Great Seal of the United States with a sunburst and an outline of America.

The third is a 1992 White House, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the White House. The reverse of the coin is the bust of James Hoban, the architect of the White House.
The fourth is the 1994 Capitol, commemorating its 200th anniversary. The reverse is based on the center area of a stained glass window near the grand staircases of the House and Senate.
