# 152 - Maine
Continuing our series of the American Half Dollars Commemoratives, we will today present the 1920 "Maine".
As all the commemorative half dollars, it weights 12,5g with a 90% silver purity.
This coin commemorates the centennial of the admission of the state of Maine to the Union, in 1820.
The obverse was taken from the arms of the State of Maine, depicting a farmer, sailor, pine tree on a shield, moose and other elements.
The reverse design simply bore inscriptions and a heavy wreath of pine in keeping with the Pine Tree State nickname given to Maine.
A total of 50,028 coins were distributed. The actual price is around U$400.00 in this grade.

The price of a circulated one is a little over spot.

He was one of the great names in American coinage. He designed the Peace dollar also.
Yup, exactly... Anthony de Francisci designed my favorite US Dollar depiction of Liberty on the Peace Dollar that I love so much! I left that detail in my comment, hoping that a stacker or collector who might come across his name would point it out. You do not disappoint, @ronaldoavelino. You know your coins well. Hmmmm... I think I will write an article related to that.

I don't know who designed the arms of the State of Maine but I know that he/she made a good job.
