# 149 - Lynchburg
Continuing our series of the American Half Dollars Commemoratives, we will today present the 1936 "Lynchburg".
As all the commemorative half dollars, it weights 12,5g with a 90% silver purity.
This coin commemorates the sesquicentennial of the 1786 city charter, an event of no national significance.
On the obverse we see the profile of Senator Carter Glass, the most influential citizen of Linchburg in 1936. They used it because nobody could find the likeness of John Lynch, after whom the city was named. Believe it or not...
The reverse design shows the goddess Liberty standing with Monument Terrace and the old Lynchburg Courthouse in the background.
A total of 20,013 coins were distributed. The actual price is around U$350.00 in this grade.
