# 146 - Long Island
Continuing our series of the American Half Dollars Commemoratives, we will today present the 1936 "Long Island".
As all the commemorative half dollars, it weights 12,5g with a 90% silver purity.
This coin commemorates the tercentenary of the first white settlement established on Long Island at Jamaica Bay.
On the obverse we see the heads of a Dutch settler and an Algonquin indian.
The reverse design was a representation of a Dutch sailing ship of the period.
A total of 81,826 coins were distributed. The actual price is around U$175.00 in this grade.
This series will continue very soon.
