# 113 - The State Quartes - Part 16
Starting in 1999 the US Mint issued a 10 years program that honored each of the nation’s states in the order that they ratified the Constitution or were admitted into the Union. They chose the $.25 coin to be the vessel of the homage.
All the coins obverses show the same profile of George Washington and the reverses were usually chosen in popular contests in each state.
All the coins that I am presenting here are NGC PF70 Ultra Cameo with 90% silver purity and weight of 6.3g.
The first is the 2008 "New Mexico". It features the Zia Sun Symbol. This represents the giver of all-good, who provided gifts in groups of four. A topographical view of the state is the background.
The second is the 2008 "Alaska". It features a grizzly bear with salmon. These are meant to symbolize the great natural beauty and wildlife, which are abundant in Alaska.
The third is the 2008 "Hawaii" It features King Kamehameha I. He unified the Hawaiian Islands in the early 1800s.
This series will continue very soon.

But of course, it is King Kamehameha that is my favorite, then next is Alaska. I love this series of yours, @ronaldoavelino!
These were the last State Quarters, but I will follow with the DC and Territories Quarters.
