# 109 - Bay Bridge
Continuing our series of the American Half Dollars Commemoratives, we will today present the 1936-S "Bay Bridge".
As all the commemorative half dollars, it weights 12,5g with a 90% silver purity.
It commemorates the opening to the public of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge on November 1936.
The obverse showed a grizzly bear.
The reverse showed the Ferry Building and the San Francisco end of the bridge, with a view toward Yerba Buena Island and Oakland.
A total of 71,424 coins were distributed. The actual price is around U$200.00 in this grade.

The sites depicted on that coin are all very familiar to me. I crossed that bridge every day of my work life for over 10 years. And now that I don't, that would be a great coin to aspire for, along with the California Commemorative Half Dollar, my favorite along with the Oregon Trail. (I am trying to get back up in VP, and it is very hard for me to refrain from upvoting your post. You always have good content! Kudos, my friend!)
