Silver Lion Dollar 2018
Yesterday I received my new Silver Lion Dollar of 2018.
What a great coin, look for yourself !!!
This version is the second strike by the Royal Dutch Mint of what probable has to become a series of various Lion Dollars which are based on the original coins from the 16th and 17th century, and were used for international trade by the Republic of the Seven United Provinces of The Netherlands.
This 2018 version is based on a coin from 1597, issued by the province of Zealand. It is showing the Arms of this Province which is the Lion, fighting and emerging from the seas.
The words on the rim of the coin, DOMINE.SERVA.NOS.PRIMVS meaning Restore us Lord that we may be saved.
On the front side we see a standing knight in armor and the words MO.NO.ARG.ORDIN.ZEL, meaning new silver coin according to the laws of the province of Zealand
If we compare the new 2018 coin with the version of 2017, we see some distinguished differences.
The version of the 2017 Silver Dollar originates from the coin minted by the Province of Utrecht in 1617 and is showing the Arms of this Province which is a standing lion. The wording on the coin CONFIDENS.DNO.NON.MOVETVR, meaning Whoever trust the Lord does not fall (or stagger).
Also the front of the coins are different, although also showing a knight in armor, but slightly different. The wording on the frontside MO.ARG.PRO.CONFOE.BELG.TRA, meaning according to the laws of the Province of Utrecht
As a Dutchman I am very proud to own this coin, which is of Proof Ultra Cameo quality and only 5000 pieces are issued by the Royal Dutch Mint. This version does not mention the words “1 ounce fine silver”. This will be shown on the BU version that will probably follow later this year, also issued in a limited edition.
Together with my Dutch SSG-friend @goldrooster, who is the proud owner of two of these wonderful coins, we are maybe one of the first to have these coins in our community. He posted a very nice unboxing video of the coin on YouTube.

i think its very cool that there is a second design, adds to the collectability of the first. Are there other potental designs for future years? but proper smart, i will get a BU
You are right it is smarter to buy the BU versions and I will buy some myself, but I could not resist to buy this one too.....😏
