Learn from my Mistakes; I want to Share my first Silver Purchase ever and Reflect.
My first silver order was full with all kinds of crazy stuff. It still really confuses me when I look at it. I'll start with a photo for everyone to admire then break it down a bit.
Yesterday I posted about the 1kg Lunar I got with my first order. About how much I dislike it and how annoyed I was about this first order.
I placed this order April 22nd, 2013 at 0227h, which likely doesn't help with good decision making. But I was sober, I was working up north at the time with very shitty internet, but again not a great excuse.
I was too eager, the way everyone was talking, it sounded like the silver was running out (turns out now I release they always say that). Spot was starting to fall from the high in 2012 and 2013 and there was increasing demands. Many bullion dealers where going under and defaulting on orders. You can see the weirdo red disclaimer silvergold bull had then.
I had been considering silver for a while, my financial advisory (of all people) had suggested I get some physical silver and I had another close friend who was a stacker. No one really explained to me, what type of bullion I should buy. No one said to pay attention to the premiums, balance your stack, buy what you like. I wish I read a bit more and learned a bit first.
I went a bit crazy, bought a few of everything. I still really like slave queen the turtle and the valcambi. Otherwise I wouldn't have bought any of it again.
Spot was 23.35 USD when I purchased this, I'll show you the damage in CAD here and the breakdown of what I bought.
I have since sold the smaller snakes and a few libertads but still own the rest.
If I did it all again this order would have looked much different.
I would have bought maybe 1-2 each of the government coins for my year sets I now collect.
I would have bought a few more silver shield rounds.
Otherwise I would have bought a few more 10oz bars for weight.
I also would have never paid with paypal, such a rookie.
Over the years, I've found my niche and passion in silver bullion, it's certainly not the right way, but I'm more of a collector. I like to have sets. I also try to add a bit of generic stuff here of there for weight. I have no problems paying high premiums, but it's for 1-2 coins/rounds and something with a design I like. Sometimes I'll buy 5-10 if I'm trying to speculate the collectors market on a new release.
I think before you start stacking or buying silver, it's good to do a little research and soul searching. Hanging out here on at #steemsilvergold is a great start. Some of the silver forums, or facebook groups are also great resources.
I'd be happy to chat silver with anyone who's new or considering it as a collection or investment, just find me on discord or comment here.

This is great thanks so much, I think it's a great introduction post to share for people curious about silver, thx.
Great post! I felt funny about my first order, too. Haha but the best way to learn is sometimes just to go for it I suppose. Friends will ask me what to start with and I get to have that conversation from time to time and it all really boils down to getting what makes you happy and everyone has different goals with stacking. I figure the only bad order is no order at all
Your right about that, you gotta start somewhere.
You can take me, but you cannot take my bunghole.... For I have no bunghole....
I need TP for my bungholio!
There will be more bungholes after me!

Not too bad, a little allover the place but you have to find where you stand in silver stacking. I like those valcambi cards but can't bring myself to pay the premium on those. But hey I just bought a couple of those silver Krugerrands so I guess I don't have a problem paying premiums on stuff I really want. Also good buy on the gold, and newb move on the paypal fee. We live and learn
Yeah I didn't even realize about the paypal mistake till I found the old receipt for this post. Could have got another 5-6 ounces. Oh well, we all learn along the way.
I pretty well made the same sort of mistakes, just on a smaller scale, because I didn't have that much money at the time.
It's probably better that way. I should have eased in a bit more.
I was told by a coin shop guy here in town to buy older numismatics. He told me that will allow him to retire.
Yup, if we could all go back and do things differently, but alas we cannot. But I sure learned from some poor choices with silver and gold, and now I try not to make those mistakes again, but I'm only human, and still impulse buy sometimes. Good post. Ciao
Thanks, I've definitely learned a lot along the way.
Nice post
