The Origin of Gold Finally Confirmed. Stars Colliding Causing Nuclear Reactions and Some Other Awe Inspiring Shit..
Researchers at MIT and Cal Tech, along with the help of dozens of astrophysicists from around the globe, have concluding decades long testing of kilonovas, the phenomena of black holes exploding in space.
The research confirmed the theory that 130 million years ago the force of stars colliding created a nuclear reaction that showered the earth with gold and other heavy elements such as silver, platinum, palladium and uranium.
While many believed this to be the case, the research wasn't conclusive until this week. The reason these elements are so rare on earth is because kilonovas themselves are extremely rare occurrences.
Researchers were finally able to view a kilonova and the data confirmed what scientists had hypothesised previously about the origin of precious metals on earth. The elements can be found in space but it is thought as rare as they are on this planet they're even more scarce in space.
Now when I'm staring at gold and silver I have a new appreciation for the shiny metals. To think of the incredible forces needed to create them is just mind boggling!

Apparently they had camera bans at one stage and now they don't. Got some footage of the gold pouring demo and just took photos in the rest of it. Have yet to get them off my phone and see if they turned out all right.
We homeschool so I try to visit interesting places (repeatedly if they're cool, though it was our first time here as admission is a bit pricey XD).
Wow, @goldenarms, this is awesome news, and it makes a lot of sense. It seems that the creations of rare and precious metals and gems follow a pattern. It takes a collision or lots of pressure and force to create them, which is the same with the creation of the pearl. Thank you so much for this info. It also makes me wonder if everything and everyone are a reflection of all things how precious and more valuable do we become as we continue to collide with each other and the times we do it because we are longing to touch, be touched or to feel something. How precious do we continue to become. Being shaped and molded by our experiences and intricate encounters with each other. And sometimes it's not negative, there are times when we are taken back or our mind is blown by a profound statement that penetrates our very being or a song someone sings that touches us inwardly playing our heartstrings, and we are moved in a way that changes us....I'm just saying...

We are all stardust. Probably took billions of years for abundant amounts of heavy elements to be made. Quite amazing. Stars, the ultimate recycler !

Creation is amazing when we think about it. Stars are born and die every day. New planets are made and new precious metals are being formed. And when we think of the amount of cosmic energy that is required, it just boggles the mind.

Whoa! I've heard that a neutron stars (the thing left over after a supernova) is very possibly a massively dense carbon crystal -- or diamond!
The reality of what we know about space seems, ironically, un-realistic.
Well it's 2017 and were just confirming the origin of an element that's been known about since the dawn of man. Our knowledge just of our earth is about the size of a grain of sand on a beach compared to what we know about the universe.. we don't know much :)
