1922 Peace Silver Dollar

unnamed.jpg

This is my introduction to the Steemit Silver community. Today, I am sharing a part of my small silver stack that I am currently collecting with the hopes of always acquiring mas over time. The history behind these coins is that my uncle gifted me 10 coins, but eight were stolen. These are the last two that I have because I hid them in a separate location. My uncle told me that he was helping someone move out of an old home in San Francisco and a bunch of these fell out of an old couch. The booty was split between the movers.

The two coins featured above are called the 1922 Peace Silver Dollar and the worth differs depending on circulation use and where it was minted. These coin in particular does not have the "D" for Denver or "S" for San Francisco on them so they are lower in value.

Also, there is what is called circulation indicators called "grades."

As you can see, from the photo of my coins and the rare uncirculated coin is graded as "gem quality." The coin is much cleaner and finer in appearance. See below for examples on how to help distinguish the difference.

I am not an expert in silver or gold coins, but I am learning. I went to a silver dealer here in Colorado and my coins were appraised at approximately $28 each. Although they are not in pristine uncirculated quality they are still considered collector's items and a step above the regular rounds of silver. As I learn more, I will be posting on my new findings regarding silver and ways to start your own silver stack.

Nice! I've always dreamed of finding something cool in an old couch haha. I have a weird obsession with coins, and if you decide to post more, I'll be pretty excited!

Sorry to hear about your loss, though. Glad you had these two tucked away :)

I know right? did you hear about the guy who found tons of gold in an old piano?! it was in the paper within the last six months or so ... i can only dream!
thanks for the support and empathy for my loss ... i didn't know at the time how valuable they were and i feel it! LOL
yes good thing these were tucked away. xx Eagle

No! I didn't hear about that - so cool! I've heard the "money in the piano" legend before (and of course couches) but never heard of the piano scenario actually happening. Good for that guy.

I went off on a tangent the other day about looking into storage unit auctions. I think our conversation here inspired it, haha!

Yeah they made quite a bit on that deal.
Lol!!! That is hilarioussss re looking in storage units. 🤣🤣🤣

Nice looking coins and this why I don't keep all my eggs in one basket. Also a good reason to diversify any investment in coins.

Thank you and yeah I hear you on the one basket deal. Yes diversify is best. :)

Nice coins! Mine got stolen as well! Keep them safe!

Thanks so much! You had these exact coins too? What happen to yours? Karma is a Bitch! xx Eagle

I had a Silver Dollar collection worth about $1400 at the time. Had them in my car when it got broken into at one of the places I used to live. Lesson learned is to never keep anything of value in your car lol!

OMG that is horrible. Very true regarding valuables in a car. So sorry.
