Celtic Lore Series #4 Cernunnos

Welcome back to D Wings World my friends and precious metals enthusiast!! We are back to look at the fourth round in Provident Metals Celtic Lore Series. This round features the god Cernunnos and has the shared reverse as well. These rounds were limited to 2000 each in each of the finishes. They were produced in antiqued, proof, and colorized. All of mine are proof. Each round is .999 fine silver and weighs 1 troy ounce. Below you will see the shared reverse.

The reverse is stunning and has the Celtic knots around the rim with two wolves looking inward toward the Celtic shield in the center of the round. Above it states the name of the series and below shows the purity and weight. The reverse is just as awesome as the obverse shown below.

Of all the rounds in this series, I think this one was the hardest to transfer to silver. Howard David Johnson's artwork is stunning and truly captures the essence of Cernunnos. According to Provident Metals "Cernunnos, known as Lord of the Wild Things, is a symbol of nature, fertility, and wealth. He is most often depicted sitting cross legged and wearing an antler crown and a torque, accompanied by a ram-horned serpent and a stag." He is seen as a protector of the wood which his crown of antlers represents. I believe that the amount of detail in this round tends to make the image on the round look a little fuzzy. I still enjoy the round and my favorite part is actually the depiction of the wolf behind him.

Changing over to the reverse of the COA you can see I received round number 707 of 2000, which in my book is still pretty low. Also, it highlights all the details of the round from mint to artist to series information. I think Provident was smart to make the Celtic knots link back to the reverse design as well. Just a wonderful presentation and round all together!
