Coins from my collection 035
*A quick silver 'pickup' and new additions to my old world coin collection.
The coins I currently have in my collection probably range in dates from the early 1800s to the end of the 1900s, and they consist mostly of Bronze and Silver pieces from around the world. but surprisingly I've never had any German coins.
*keep in mind that most of my coin collection are passed down through my family (or found coins), I have just recently started adding purchased coins into the set.
so their values (for me) are mostly sentimental.
I paid (including shipping) just slightly above their silver weight price, but below their average numismatic value, so I consider it a good deal.
coins from my collection:
#035A 1951 and 1971, 5 Deutsche Mark from Germany - Federal Republic
I've always preferred coins with animals and/or geometric shapes and simple designs. And this is now one of my favorite coins.
1971
On the obverse: image of the German eagle,
Including the text: n/a,
and engraved by n/a.
1971
On the reverse: the number 5 surrounded by text,
Including the text: 'BUNDESREPUBLIK' 'DEUTSCHLAND'
'DEUTSCHE' 'MARK', '5', '1951', 'F' ('1971', 'D'),
and engraved by A. Holl.
24,000,000 were minted in .625 silver in 1951 (and 4,000,000 in 1971) at the Munich Mint (and Stuttgart Mint) respectively.
This coin has a Smooth edge with the Lettering: 'EINIGKEIT UND RECHT UND FREIHEIT', weighs 11.2 g, and it has a diameter of 29 mm.
These coins are in good, circulated condition.
Grade: 1951, VF and (1971 Fine)
Current value: ~ $8 - $10 each usd
I especially like the aged look of 1951 coin.
edit: ...and the edge is really cool too!
...and, that's it for today.

I like these old German coins. To me they have a kind of nobility.
yes, they do seem kind of "regal" like that... I could see this image on a medieval banner or something.
also, I added 1 more pic of the coin's edge that I originally forgot to add into the post.
