Wine Review - Torbreck Barossa Valley 2015 Woodcutter's Shiraz

in #steempub7 years ago (edited)

Torbreck Wines is another one of the Barossa's highly acclaimed wineries, with a cellar full of award-winning wines.

Their range is comprehensive, with a good selection of your "everyday man's" wines coming in at between $20 and $100 a bottle, right up to their flagship "2012 The Laird" at $750 each, cough!!

I'm firmly in the "everyday man's" budget, and so picked up a bottle of Torbreck 2015 Woodcutter's Shiraz at $25. Not a bad price, and around the mark I usually buy wines at. I do venture into the $10-20 in search of a great budget wine, but have found the $20 to$30 range a much safer place to get something decent, and not kitchen sink-worthy.

This Shiraz didn't disappoint at all, and was very enjoyable. Coming out of the younger vines in the north-west Barossa valley, the wine was very much in the fruitier side of Shiraz from the region. It had an almost freshness to it as well, with generous helpings of plum, blueberry, mocha and chocolate, with a touch of spice. It was silky smooth and full of body with, bit was a bit thin on the finish. Perhaps a few more years in the bottle would make this one even better. THat said, I don't know that i could leave a bottle of this that long before wanting to take it out and drink it.

The grapes for this Shiraz are hand harvested before being fermented on cement, wooden and stainless steel vats for 6 to 7 days. They are then basket pressed into well-seasoned hogsheads, and large French Oak foudres for 12 months before being bottles without either fining or filtering the wine. The large foudres ensure that the wine only gets a slight touch of oak influence, bringing the fruitiness to the fore.

A well priced Shiraz at $25 per bottle, and a very enjoyable vintage as well. We scored this wine a 4 out of 5. Another great winery on our ever-growing list of places to visit when we eventually get to Adelaide.

Cheers!

ahhh you love it mate! nice read mate.

Thanks mate. I did enjoy this one :)

I'm pretty curious on how wine tastes like in different parts of the world. My steemit friends say that it is good but here in my country I haven't really appreciated it much. Maybe because it's not of good quality. ^^ But anywho... I'm blabbing! Cheers!

Different grapes grow better in different parts of the world. Our taste preferences are also all different, so don't be shy to try a wine from anywhere in the world... you never know if you like it until you've tried it.

Good Shiraz. Cheers bmj!

Great landscape garden wine 🍷
