Desperately seeking SteemPress

in #steempress7 years ago

This morning I got an email from WordPress saying that they have billed my Business Plan which was on an auto-renew - 300€. I contacted them to have it refunded and knocked back down to a Premium Plan instead. They said it will take "up to 2 card billing cycles for it to be credited", which is crazy. However, that is not on them it seems and they actually were polite and efficient in their support.

The reason I upgraded to WordPress Business in the first place was because it was the only way to be able to install plugins and I wanted to use @SteemPress-io, which is @howo and @fredrikaa's application creation. I still want to use it of course, because I think that it is going to be one of the applications that eventually becomes a strong onboarding tool as it allows for all WordPress blogs to post to the blockchain and monetize instantly but, 200€ is a little steep for the privilege and I have better places to spend it (like on Steem). I still have the Premium service there for my business.

I signed up for the WordPress business plan in what can only be considered haste as it was during this time last year where my daughter was in hospital with health issues, I was sleep deprived and, didn't do any research. I found out later that there were much, much cheaper options available for hosting that would still allow me to use SteemPress. By the time I heard this, it was too late to revert my subscription.

My question is,

what is a good WordPress host that allows for the SteemPress plugin? Now that it has been a year and people have had experience with it, I am hoping that the wisdom of the crowd can help me find a decent hosting service that is relatively cheap and simple to use and manage. Any ideas?

Expanding the borders

How I see it is that all of these little channels into Steem like @SteemPress, @SteemOnboarding, @Steemmonsters, @Steemhunt and the like will slowly expand their presence and converge streams to become a flood of activity in the future. The more externally inclusive they are, the more intertwined Steem and life activities become and, the more development takes place to cater for the growing ecosystem, which in turn expands the borders again.

So anyway, if anyone who has experience with WordPress alternatives can drop a comment or if you prefer, contact me on discord (tarazkp #5792), it would be very much appreciated so I can get up and SteemPressing-ing again soon.

That is a bit rough and it works at at around 25 Euros a month. Hopefully someone will have a better option and will see what others say as I would like to be part of that as well at some point. I have so many drafts saved these days that I need to be more organised.

yep, there are some options I will look into thanks to everyone here :)

OMFGs dude... I’m paying something rediculously cheap like AUD$50 a year for hosting (May be more or less) for a personal site and I’ve installed steempress and other plugins myself. I don’t even need a premium plan although I will need to pay an extra bit per year to make it https. But it’s still nowhere near what you’re paying.

Check out crazy domains.

Yep, it is insanity. It looks like there are lots of options now though :)

Don't forget @share2steem.. according to @algo.coder it will be possible to automatically publish posts from Blogger to the Steem Blockchain...

And unlike WordPress, custom domains are free on Blogger.com

yeah, but I have my business blog on wordpress, it has been there for years. I will set up another for Steem perhaps and have an outward facing content point.

I think @paulag is another resource that can help out as she does a great job with the @theexcelclub!

yep, I think she could help too :)

I use Go Daddy, cost me about £100 for 3 years. I think some of their reviews aren't brilliant but I've been on it for nearly a year now and everything seems fine.

I hear good and bad about them but then, I am still keeping a premium wordpress for my business (for now). Will look into the options and see which is both cheap and easy to set up. All I really need for this one is the draft point.

It depends on your theme. If you're attached to your website theme, that may be an issue. Perhaps if you switch to a different web host, you'll still have access to your current theme. If not, you'll need to redo your website when you change hosts.

That doesn't mean you need to necessarily redo all the text on each page and menus. Some goes into the WP core and content folders, so won't be touched. But getting it to display properly is another matter. Depending on how much your current theme is just direct input vs. fancy modules to automate a fancy looking theme's website creation it may be more or less work.

But once you've committed to doing whatever you have to with the site to get onto a cheaper hosting plan, you've got lots and lots of options for inexpensive wordpress hosting. Good luck! And don't use Bluehost or GoDaddy. Quite unreliable.

I don't need much for this one. I am thinking of maybe doubling it as an outward facing Steem point and perhaps it will be chanced upon by a future whale :D

I still have a premium WP blog for my business, not that I have time to update it.

Hey, sad to hear that it turned out this way. Yeah wordpress.com is a rip-off, I would recommend fast comet or ovh. I have used ovh myself and heard loads of good things about fast comet.

Cheers for your fast reply mate. I will check those out after work today. It is a bit steep through WordPress to install one plugin :D

I’m using Scrips.io and it works with Steempress, cheers

added you to my feed, not saying i'm going to vote on all your stuff though:) EDIT: oh im also looking through your list of people to follow, need to broaden my horizens lol

Sir, You are under no obligation to vote for me dear.
Please vote for me Boss.

haha fk

but you do not need wordpress hosting to have the steempress plugin
I have the free wordpress included in my website with godaddy and it works just fine

I will give it a go, thanks :)

Yep, what @felander says may well be the best & cheaper bet if you are willing to do 'some' webmaster work.

However and even when I didn't test this myself. I kinda recall something about some sort of agreement between Privex and @steempress offering a hosting package to all steemians with everything already setted up for just few bucks.

Privex even had some Special Promo for Finland citizens and other Scandinavian countries located in Northern Europe seven months ago. :)
