Hello steemians! It’s been a while since our previous update where we shared our 2018 roadmap, our vision and mission statement, and introduced our new witness @steempress. Since then, we’ve gone through a transition period to begin working full time on SteemPress to realize the goals stated in the post, while also implementing changes according to the demands of our users and ensuring compatibility with changes made to the Steem blockchain.

HF20 updates:

The last few days following the latest hardfork on the 24th of September have been very busy for all active witnesses and application developers. Ourselves we have been working non-stop together with other top witnesses to ensure that the @steempress witness was running the latest updates as soon as they were implemented by other witnesses to fix the various problems that were introduced with HF20. As a result, our witness was updated and replayed 4 times in a matter of days and now runs on version 0.20.5 similar to all other top witnesses.

A few minor changes were also implemented following the fork to accompany the introduction of resource credits and changes to curation. These include handling resource credit errors when an account is low on resource credits and changing the time at which @steempress-io can cast its vote on new posts to 15 minutes as opposed to the 30 minutes before.

New post queue manager

One reoccurring problem that some of our users have had is when they accidentally bulk-post several old WordPress articles they have written using SteemPress. This could result in them spamming their Steem-blog, and thus also their followers, with several posts. Users who made this mistake had no other option but to contact us directly and have our assistance in deleting them. To make it more convenient for both ourselves and the users, we've built a new interface where you can see what posts have been scheduled to be posted to the blockchain and delete those that you do not want to post.

SteemPress post queue.png
The post queue manager allows the user to see and delete posts are currently scheduled to be posted from their WordPress blog

Content discovery dashboard

For some time, we have used our own website, steempress.io, to browse posts that are made using our plug-in. Since we are receiving a lot of questions by users regarding how we find new posts, or whether they need to include the #steempress tag to be seen by us, we thought we would briefly introduce this tool even though it is still work in progress.

SteemPress content discovery dashboard.png
The SteemPress content discovery dashboard allow any user to browse content published with SteemPress, or on the Steem blockchain generally, based on their own search criteria. The website's design is still a work in progress.

The dashboard is intended to give any curators a more convenient way to discover content and find authors on the Steem blockchain or to browse SteemPress content in particular. The dashboard presents search options that the browser can set to improve their search. Furthermore, by logging in using SteemConnect, a user can create their own blacklists of users whose content they would like to hide from their search (i-e spammers, or proven plagiarists). While we are aware that alternative solutions exist, we hope that the tool can prove valuable to other Steem communities and projects and in particular to the many communities that we trail.

Progress on two-way integration

The major promise of SteemPress outlined in our previous post is enabling a full two-way integration where not only are posts made to WordPress posted to the Steem blockchain, but where comments and upvotes made on Steem are also reflected on the website running SteemPress. Over the past two months, we've made great progress towards this goal and will be excited to share an alpha release of these capabilities later this fall. For now, one update we've made in this regard is enabling edits to posts to be made on both the WordPress and Steem articles. Previously, if a user made an edit to their post on WordPress after having published it with SteemPress, they would have to individually edit both articles afterward. One time on Steem, and one time on WordPress. Now, if an update is made on your blog, it will also be done on Steem.

Other updates and improvements

• Improvements made to the generated URL of posts where the title contains special non-latin characters. This should generally result in less messy URLs for posts made in languages such as Chinese.
• Introduced a limit to the number of votes one user can receive each week through our different voting trails. In practice, this will only affect a limited number of users who were previously receiving a very large amount of tralied votes, which will now instead we distributed among other users.
• Fixed some errors with blockquotes.
• Increased the available space for the customizable footer to allow for a greater variety of signatures.
• Enabled the custom footer to include special characters.
• Fixed a problem where html lines were wrongly converted and displayed as "<br/" on steem.
• Automatic removal of html comments that may have been added to the text.

Attending SteemFest 3

Finally, we are happy to share that both SteemPress co-founders, @howo and @fredrikaa, will be attending SteemFest 3 in Krakow, Poland November 7-11 to present our latest updates in the "state of the Apps" pitching session and also be part of the Wall of dApps stands!

First of all, I want to say thanks for Steempress support, you have no idea how much you have helped us, particularly those who are genuinely here to create quality content.

The other I want to ask, can we switch off the synchronised update? That's great for typos etc, but often I add Steemit related information to my post after its posted onto Steemit. If I update my WP post will that override the updates I made on Steemit?

I'm proud to be a supporter of SteemPress's. New update along with more innovative and is happy to be open to improvements.

@SteemPress is a platform where Steemit and WordPress users meet. In this way, the main objective of Steemit is (for me) blog writing can be accomplished by many users. Thanks for @Howo and @Fredrikaa for doing this.

Finally, I wish @Steempress to grow further with new developments. I hope you do that. Good Luck!

@thesky

Ahh, Ive been waiting an update from SteemPress. The queue post manager is great and also helpful for us who write daily, lifestyle, friendship and inspiration. Ive also been watching the github repo the commits from dr0v.

I cant wait to see my blogs that can be seen to my audiences. Especially to my clients for (Photography) category. You guys are the best, take care on your trip to Krakow! Cheers guys and enjoy the flight!

Will there be a function to enable us to opt out of auto updates when modifications are made? For example, if wanting different tags, different links, or different ways of naming people on the two sites?

I tend to prefer linking to people's blogs on my or my community's WP but using their steem usernames there. So I often push it out with the steem names and tags then edit WP to the others.

Great updates! Excited for the two way integration. The two way edit right now is pretty neat already!

Great work @howo and @fredrikaa! :)

I'm proud to be part of SteemPress!

Great updates @Fredrikaa and @Howo. You guys have been working really hard to give us great user experience. I really appreciate you guys for not only adding new features but also for providing us with frequent updates on the progress.

Happy journey to Krakow, Poland. And, all the best for your continuous hard work.

I love @steempress ... it's a wonderfully functional piece of software that just works.

Two questions...

  1. What counts as spam? Personally I try to limit my steempress posts to 2 a week so as not to take the piss.

  2. Will the updates on wp change the steem post even after the 7 day lock in?

Chhers for all the dev work!

  1. Only the extreme cases where some users make a new post every 5 mimutes 24/7. I would say more than 50 per day = spam.
  2. It should afyer the update made to Steem not to long ago that allowed for edits past 7 days.

Thanks for the reply...

50 per day? Is there an accidental extra 0 in there!?

Sadly, no, opening steem to wordpress also means we open steem to all the automated plugins for posting on wordpress. We had cases of aggregation blogs that basically took articles from 50 different sources and aggregated everything under the same blog, and with steempress, on steem. They used to post about 200 articles a day.

·

Crikey... that's a whole nother level.

I still think >4 posts a day is taking the piss.

Maybe I'm just old fashioned?!

Some websites publish content made by more than one author to one Steem account for their website or magazine. I think this is fine. The problem is when there's a new post pushed every 5 minutes which is usually just spam or copied plagiarism. We see less of that after the introduction of resource credits though.

Glad to hear HF20s working like it's supposed to in that respect!

Now, if an update is made on your blog, it will also be done on Steem.

It is really good feature and I like so much.

Introduced a limit to the number of votes one user can receive each week through our different voting trails. In practice, this will only affect a limited number of users who were previously receiving a very large amount of tralied votes, which will now instead we distributed among other users.

This is also very great. This changes will make a change to the other steemians.

Great news and update @steempress. I love the way you presented your mission and how much you are working hard behind the scenes.

I am loving these updates!

  • Post edit in Wordpress will also automatically edit our Steemit post. This is very much convenient to us!

  • Comments made on Steemit will be reflected on our personal websites. More than amazing! (Soon)

  • Allowing us to customize more our footers (special characters) and available space.

Way more than better @steempress. Thanks for the hardwork and passion to serve the community. I'll look forward of watching you on livestreams.

Best information, Hopefully steempress is always the best.

The comments integration would be awesome!

I tried this plugin, but the images only came across as place holders, so I had to manually edit. It wasn't much fun.
I'll try it one more time, to see if these changes have improved anything. Thanks for creating this.

That happened to me too - but then realised that my website had hotlink protection enabled. Once I disabled it, my images show up properly. :) Just mentioning in case that's your problem too!

Amazing update and I'm sure the bloggers amongst us with a WordPress site really appreciate the effort and hard work that's gone in (and going in) to make this plug-in as compatible as possible.

Love the update.

Just have a question about using the steempress tag as you mentioned it in the blog but didn't clarify. Do we need to put the steempress tag in the 5 we're allowed when posting or will it be picked up by your website regardless?

thank you for this new update

·

your gifs too :D

Aww, thanks so much @howo! Have you seen this one? I posted it in the Discord channel a while back. Oh, and anyone who wants to use it on their WordPress blog is welcome to it. 😊

The important thing is to continue working to improve more and more. Congratulations. Always successful, even at SteemFest in Krakow, Poland. Greetings friends...

This plugin has saved a lot of my time. Normally re-purposing a word press blog for steem took hours and now I don't even have to lift a finger to get my posts over to Steemit - thank you!

Does steempress.io show those posts only that have been upvoted by you guys? I can't find mine when I search "Python" in the tag section.
