Buddha Sculptures in Chiljangsa Temple
There were two stone granite sculptures beside of Daewung-Jeon Hall in Chiljangsa Temple. I didn't expect to see those stone reliefs in the temple
It was not written when those reliefs were carved. But in my guess, those reliefs seemed to be made before Chosun dynasty.
In Chosun dynasty, the skill of carving the relief was not so outstanding. The size of the relief was also very important to estimate when those carvings had been made. I could not remember such a big buddha statue in Chosun Dynasty.
The hand posture of standing Buddha relief was so special to others.
The hand posture was very natural. And this relief did not take typical Buddhist hand posture. It was the first time for me to see such a natural posture.

I have become obsessed with the hand placement on the Buddha. There are such complex meanings in the hand gestures, something I did not know until studying the art of the sculptures.
I will admit that I have never seen this natural post - ever.

I believe this carving will really stand for something important because it actually looks great
Stone sculptures might be more difficult to do than painting or carving from wood. I was wondering what kind of equipment they use and how long did it take them to create such a sculpture. I like the standing Buddha stone work :)
