The world's first central bank to buy Bitcoin and Ethereum

The Venezuelan Central Bank is investigating the possibility of holding Bitcoin (BTC) and Etherea (ETH) in its treasuries according to anonymous sources, which allegedly have a direct view of the matter.

Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PSDV), a state-owned oil and gas company, has asked the central bank to address this issue after the oil producer has encountered difficulties in receiving payments from international clients as a result of US sanctions against the current regime of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Unnamed sources said PSDV is trying to transfer BTC and ETH to the Venezuelan central bank and then let the central institution pay its vendors in cryptocurrencies.

In the hope of overcoming isolation from the global financial system, the Venezuelan central bank is reportedly examining proposals that would allow the allocation of cryptocurrencies to the country's international reserves, which currently reach a 30-year minimum, or $ 7.9 billion.
