Since the beginning of time we have wondered about our role in the world.
We would not be in error if we thought that those humans who contemplated the sky at the doors of a cave were already aware of finitude.
Among all the species that inhabit the earth, only humans are aware of temporality, which is our privilege. We know that life is defined in a space of time that goes from birth to death. An inescapable truth which has been the starting point for great reflections.
Why are we here? What do we do in this world? Those are not new questions. They have an old data. But they remain fully valid. Why? The answer is simple: they serve as a beacon to decide the course of our lives.
There are those who believe that life is nothing but a beginning and an end, the agnostics. That there is nothing beyond, neither before, nor after. A respectable thought, of course. To me in particular, I cannot think enough to imagine that life is just that. And you?
For those of us who are believers, things are different. We share an idea that our life is not a matter of chance. We think that we come to this world with some purpose, for the realization of some task.
Have you ever asked yourself these things?
In our time there is little space for these reflections. It is easy to be overwhelmed by routines. We always have some pending activity. Work, study, make purchases, stay fit, steeming, anyway...
But there comes a time in life when we begin to feel uneasiness, a void. Nothing we do seems to fulfill us. Some try to evade that feeling, they look for more activities, they live with more debauchery, they exhaust all the free time. But in the end, they are still the same. They cannot get rid of the restlessness. Has that happened to you, have you felt it?
Perhaps the best way to deal with this oppressive emptiness is to pause, put the brakes on and ask ourselves: what am I doing? Where do I go?
How about, if instead of thinking that we are just a particle of dust in the universe that will disappear when we die, you do this other approach: we are a fundamental part of a divine plan and we have come to this world to fulfill a task!
What are we talking about? How to know which task is entrusted to us by the creator? I will not fool you. The answer is not easy. Many never find out. But I'll give you some clues.
Do what corresponds to you with passion, love and dedication.
If you manage to do your activity without reluctance, with a clear intention to improve, with a notorious impact, not only in your well-being, but also in that of those around you, you are well on your way. You have probably managed to find the role assigned to you in the plan of creation. And it is logical, only what you do with love is what you are going to devote your greatest efforts, is where you will feel that time flies by, where grief has no place, where you will want to return again and again.
The achievement and the reward are in the same activity.
It is true that we live in a material world, in which we need to produce what is necessary to maintain a decent and satisfactory standard of living. That is a reality that is there and that we cannot avoid. But that does not have to distract us from our purpose. The main reward we must seek is the satisfaction of having done well, feeling that what we did was the result of our best effort, that we give ourselves thoroughly, with pleasure.
It is never too late to amend our paths, we can all deviate at some point, but how good is it when we can say: here is where I wanted to be! Good luck in your searches.
