#ImpactTom 3: Millionaire Mindset with Mylett! (+ Tom's Quest for Impact ;))

in #steempress6 years ago (edited)

Here we have a couple of boys about town. Ed Mylett on Tom Bilyeu's Impact Theory show… then a twist in proceedings with the ol' role reversal!

Let's start off with Ed. I've seen him around here and there and as well as being a beast, he's also incredibly insightful. A direct and clear talker (of Bedros Keuilian ilk, who will appear later in this series), humble and genuinely appreciative of individuals and circumstances around him. Apparently, a small, skinny and shy guy in his younger days… not so much now! ;)

Let's delve right in…

"That which you do not hate you will eventually tolerate" ~ Malcolm X

People are immune to average. They tend to minimise where they're at (ie. delude themselves at where they are). You gotta feel that pain to spur you into action…

Be blissfully dissatisfied

Never happy, never satisfied. Relentless. This may or may not sound good to the average person out there, but this is actually in finding a state of bliss in always reaching for the next goal and level of being.

Celebrate your wins. Keeps us hungry rather than the reverse.

When you're hungry for food you can savour the bite and also want more. It doesn't stop you eating. Make sure you observe your progress and it will help you strive for more. Don't wait for the future to be happy, when 'this' happens.

80/20 - 80% enjoying and 20% kick up the ass

Pareto getting in amongst it again. The 80/20 rule can be applied here and this was actually Tom's ratio of how he goes about things. 80% of the time he's revelling in the positive and building. 20% of the time he's giving himself a slap as to how and where to improve. It's important to get this ratio right, as many people spend far too much time in the negative space. Having said that, being 100% positive may leave its own damage as you're not making adjustments.

Happy = self-aware

Happiness is self-awareness. Knowing where you are, your shortcomings, what you need to do and how best to apply it all is where the magic happens.

Keep promises to yourself. Not for other people. Stack.

This is being true to yourself and doing things as it's the right thing for you and the world, not to impress or please others. It's important to be honest to yourself. Then all these moments, decisions and actions stack on one another to boost that confidence and forward momentum.

Be grateful.

Ed thought he had nothing but clearly did. At lunch with a friend he was being negative about life, not grateful for anything. Someone in the restaurant with a terminal illness gave him a jolt as to what he did have.

RAS

Reticular Activating System. This is the part of your brain where it brings into focus things that you have set your attention to. Activate this appropriately to bring in to existence what you're looking for.

State change

Managing your state at will and at the appropriate times gets you in the right mode to achieve what you want.

Control your morning and evening. Set up routines. Do something cold, meditation etc. Don't touch your phone!

Get a good morning routine on the go, perhaps the most important thing. Whilst you're at it, a great evening routine can work wonders too. Get these 2 set and what goes in between can be easily manageable. Ed also jumps in to the ocean or cold shower to trigger himself into action… and don't touch the phone yet!

You do emotions, not just feel them. Physiology

You actually create emotions through the movement of your body, not the other way around.

Do one extra rep/set. Pattern. Shifts identity. One more!

This applies to the gym, but also life in general. Doing that extra bit which shifts your identity in a positive way and also achieves that little bit more in the moment.

You will always hit the level of the thermostat. Change thermostat level through association.

The analogy of a thermostat and the level a person is set at. You will always tend to average back to that point, whether that's up or down. The trick is to move it up to a more desired level. Surrounding yourself with people and a better environment is a way to do this.

Link gifts to winning

A positive association to getting things done. 'Motivation' if you will. Or why.

In 'crisis' to get to the next version of himself

Blissfully dissatisfied again. Crisis seems a negative word, but such a striving to reach the next point and see what's possible.

You're perfect as you are now. BUT it's inferior to where you should be next year. Your past can never be bigger than your future.

Always improving. Nothing wrong with you now and you could be phenomenal… but there needs to be an improvement to where you are in the future.

Lazy. 'They're different', no, they build habits, rituals and disciplines that serve them

Ed calls himself lazy. We all are to a degree whether we call it that or not. The successful manage to instil discipline in their habits, routines and rituals to always keep them on task and keep moving forward.

Emotional big reasons (not just goals) change standards. Leverage and reasons. Daughter's wedding/son graduation

It's good to have big, emotional reasons to trigger action. Ed gives the example of wanting to be around for his kids at big events in his/their life. It's not a bigger house.

2 motivators - childhood and death. Link is people. Link people to goals.

These are massive motivators. Find the right buttons and it can trigger people to certain responses. And there are always people involved throughout a lifetime. So, linking these factors gets people moving and stirs strong emotions.

Must be passionate and believe, not play a role. People don't have to believe what you're saying, they need to believe you believe what you're saying - effective speaker

How to be an effective speaker. The audience can disagree but if they believe you know what you're talking about and believe that you believe in what you're saying, they will be invested and have respect.

The separation is in the preparation

Be prepared! That's what sets you apart (plus it rhymes ;))

The most inspiring person is the one overcoming the fear of doing something, not the person who's excellent at it.

It takes a lot to do something when you don't look or feel the part. It's a lot easier when you're at the top of your game. Spare a thought and some appreciation for someone who gets out there despite obstacles.

Your obsessions become you possessions

You need to be obsessed with your goals in order to realise them.

Step into the dream. Your mind gravitates to what you're most familiar with (good or bad). Experience your dream for a second - going to properties etc. Trick your mind into believing you belong there. We never end up anywhere we feel we don't belong. Images in head, and see it. Triple whammy is also to see it, touch it, feel it and smell it. Experience it short term.

For example, going around a neighbourhood you'd like to live, test driving the car etc. Experiencing what it's like to have what you are after and actually feel yourself there. Even temporarily, it will get you in to that headspace and move you in that direction.

Inspire as many people as he physically can in their lives to chase down the ultimate version of them, in their way, in their place, in their space. (100,000,000 people)

The impact Ed wants to have in the world.

What about the person that gave you the shot and the person you may impact?

There might be someone that gave you that chance. Saw something in you and was a catalyst in your development. Think about them. And think about how you may be that person for someone else.

*****
And as promised, Ed interviewing Tom for your viewing delight. This is a good chance to see a bit more of what Tom's all about and put the interviews and show into some sort of context. I didn't know anything about the guy before seeing some clips from his interviews he hosted, so this was quite cool to see. I won't add any notes myself as this as this article would get a bit long, plenty more of his vids and talks around YouTube…

Good stuff chaps.

What's your your top take and how are you going to implement it?
