RE: SteemPoll v2 future improvements

in #steempoll7 years ago

Hi @good-karma,

just a quick idea that came into my mind while reading your document. It is regarding your point 2.

Post poll as comment to post. (after deadline, this comment will be edited with result and giving notice about deadline, which can also be used by UIs to disable voting on options)

I think tcommenting and updating a comment is not the best solution because in huge discussions this post may be one of the last ones and may not be seen by all users.

So a quick idea:

  1. Generate a $POLL_ID.png in your backend that shows something like "Vote is open for 10hours .."
  2. If the deadline occured the $POLL_ID.png should show the results.

So the user would add something like

<img src="good-karms-backend.net/123.png

May be good idea to do so...

Good point, thank you for your comment @dez1337! Although images are usually cached...it could work. But idea of editing is to not allow further voting from any UI (user interfaces, steemit, esteem, busy). Seeing/reading comments and discussions will be easier with www.steempoll.net where you click on comments icon on each option and see all discussions (new/old sorting) related to that option. While all other UIs are giving optional and additional support for participation...

Regarding the caching problem: It is your backend :P Just add some headers in your web server that tells the browser to not cache the image:

Cache-Control: no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate

I get your point. I think you also have to make some kind of business decision here: Do you want the people to visit your page because you can earn some money here with adds or other services or do you want to avoid that users have to switch the service? In the second case solutions are needed that can be integrated into steemit.com out of the box.
