Concluding The Homesteading Brigade | An Outreach Event Powered by Steem
April has finally come. Since December last year, we have been anticipating and preparing for the activities we have planned for Davao. About 4 months ago, a Project Proposal was made to SteemPH. The proposal was named Homesteading Brigade as it aims to teach students from Libertad National High School to grow crops from their own backyard. Three days ago, on April 4, what once was just a vision became a reality. We finally got to hold the our third outreach program in Davao.
Homesteading Brigade
The seminar started at around 9 am. There were about 40 students, 10 parents, 10 teachers, and 5 volunteers. Our primary goal was to share knowledge about growing crops so that students may put healthy food inside their lunch packs instead of eating sea salt for lunch. Instructions on how to properly plant seeds, use fertilizers, and propagation were given. After that, seeds and fertilizer were distributed.
After the planting materials were given, we distributed school supplies. Each of the 40 students and 10 parents were given 4 notebooks, 2 black ballpens, and 2 blue ballpens. A box of pad papers were given to the teachers to be used for when they have quizzes.
We also provided snacks to all the participants. 70 Cheese burger and Peach Mango Pie from Jollibee were ordered and we bought 70 bottles of soda from a store near the school.

Since the proposal was made, we have been trying to pool funds through our posts. Below is a table showing the said posts and their respective SBD rewards.

@sunnylife also sent 10 sbds to help us with this project, giving us a total of 87.94 SBDs. The exchange rate for SBD to USD on April 4th was 2.46, while the exchange for USD to PHP was 52.04. All in all, we were able to pool ₱11, 257.93

With the our total expenses of ₱15, 410, we had a deficit of ₱4,132. We are indeed blessed as a donor so generously covered this for us.
The school administrator, the teachers, the parents, and the students profusely thanked us as we bade them goodbye.
