IF YOU ARE FIGHTING FOR EQUALITY, THEN BETTER THINK TWICE!

WHY THINK TWICE?

“Ma, nganung di man nmo makit.an si kuya!.”

These were the words of my brother which means “Mom, why can’t you see Kuya!” when he angrily answered my mother’s request to prepare for our dinner. He feels like he all got the household chores.

It was thursday afternoon, while I was studying for my pre-board examination this February. And so because my mom can see that I’m too busy and it was hard for me to get up and do the chores because she knows well that I need to focus on it, she gave all the chores to my brother. And my brother was like …

He was murmuring the whole time and is unhappy of my mom’s decision. But he doesn’t have any choice but to do the chores because he was absent in his school. As much as I want to (Hahaha), but I’m so busy.

Seeing and hearing him, you can see that he feels like life is unfair. He’s shouting and fighting for equality.

If you were my mom, would you do the same?

That’s how we humans are fighting for equality. All the time we think that life is unfair, because one is rich and the other is poor. One is strong, the other is weak, because some have while some doesn’t. We all searching for that one thing that will equate humanity, that’s why Economics is created, to satisfy the unsatisfying needs and wants of people, to distribute and balance wealth.

Like a family with 12 children, usually if the mother wants to give something on one of her child, she must also give all of them. Because one might be hurt, or sad, or worst rebel.

Has there been a point in your life where you have also concluded that life was fair, and so you are seeking for equality?

But do we really need equality? Do the world really need equality?

But, what does equality really means?

Suppose a man having 2 pieces of bread, met two men. One was a man having no home, is blind, and doesn’t have any occupation. The other man was a rich and popular man, but both are hungry at that very time, what should the man with 2 pieces of bread do?

If we apply equality, then the man will give both the poor and rich with one bread each. Do you now think that’s fair?

Again, I will ask you, do we really need equality?
If not equality, then what do we really need?

THE OTHER WAY AROUND

There is another thing, that might help us, as we search for that something that will balance our unsatisfying need. That is EQUITY

Let’s take a look on what equity means

Back again with the man having 2 pieces of bread, when we apply there Equity, the man will give two bread to the poor man and no bread to the rich man because he can buy at his own, he may be hungry at that time but he can fulfill his needs, but the poor man can not. And because equity measures the fairness of every situation, it is not considering equal treatment, but right and proper treatment. To understand more, Here is a picture that will allow us to understand the difference of equality and equity.

So now, what do you think do we really need? Still Equality? Better think twice!
