Korean Craze Week - Bulgogi Brothers
I watched the Philippines contingent at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony with a beer in hand last Friday night. I was glued to the screen, curious how the North and South Koreans would harmonize for the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics while thinking about Secretly, Greatly, the movie about the North Korean Spy sent to live and blend in with Southern locals.
The next day, we tried a newly opened resto nearby, Bulgogi Brothers.
Taking from its name, they serve Korean Food with excellent service. You guys know I'm a huge fan of Samgyupsal or Grilled Pork Belly but this time I tried Beef version of Samgyupsal which in Korean is called Soegogi-gui, but that's harder to remember than Samgyupsal.
As soon as we sat down, they gave us corn tea and explained to us the health benefits of drinking the hot corn tea. They left a flask of the tea on our table in case we wanted more.
I was going to order Pork but seeing that Beef was cheaper by Php100 and they were both 160g or 180g serving, I thought I would go for the Beef.
The ambiance wasn't too fancy looking, it was quite comfortable and they had big screen TV's showing a basketball game - not too appealing for me but dads would love that, wouldn't they? On the walls were Korean paintings and wood panel decor. They also had electric induction stovetops built onto the table and the waiter turns it on to cook the beef for me.
Watch as does it with flair.
He added cloves of garlic, sweet potato slices and onions to the hot plate before he goes on to add the tender beef slices.

I took some tips from how he does it so I know the right way next time I go get a Samgyupsal fix. The sides are refillable, he says. I get lettuce, crunchy dilis like fish, corn, kimchi, kangkong or water spinach as he calls it, and spiced lettuce.
I wondered how rice cakes tasted like so I ordered a serving. It lookes like a huge serving but really it was small. I didn't get rice so this was my carbohydrate for my meal. Rice cakes are my new favorite, almost like tikoy but not too sweet.
After some time, the beef was almost done. I really think he cooks it better than I did all those times I went for Korean grilled pork or beef. I usually separate them all up into separate strips.
Do you grill your beef belly the same way?
My date, @greymonolith got a Bulgogi Bibimbap that they also mixed up for us - they pamper their customers too well.
The rice on their Bibimbap was already tasty but it came with a small bowl of soup just in case we found it lacking taste or dry. It was a huge serving.
Bulgogi Bibimbap Php420 - A bowl of mixed rice topped with vegetables and Bulgogi.
The grilled beef was so good!
I ate rice cake then a beef lettuce wrap, perfect match.
Dinner was a bit pricey and I was thinking I could get the same price with unlimited Samgyupsal but it was worth a try to experience the kind of service Bulgogi brothers gave us.
I think I would come back and have the Spicy Rice cakes because they were worth the small serving at that price. It was heavy in the tummy, tasted spicy and yummy.
