The Steem-Oracle Project: World Cup Prediction Game Update #4

Hello Steemians! In this update, I am also going to reveal how the top 10 predictors will be decided and ranked. So please read on to the end.

So far, we have not seen a match without a goal in this World Cup. This is very indicative of the attacking mindset of the teams in general. Even weaker teams are playing for a win and not just for a draw. In the past 2 days, we see plenty of goals as well. Here is a summary of the results:

• Sweden 1 - 0 South Korea
• Belgium 3 - 0 Panama
• Tunisia 1 - 2 England
• Colombia 1 - 2 Japan
• Poland 1 - 2 Senegal
• Russia 3 - 1 Egypt

It is an exciting World Cup so far with plenty of surprising results. Which is why I love the game of football. Anyway, let's see how the Wisdom of Steemians (WoS) fare in this update.

Colombia vs Japan

In my previous update, I realized that the table gets truncated on Steemit.com when there are too many columns. So moving forward, I will just show the "Voter", "Selection", "Validity" and "Result" columns.

WoS prediction:

• Colombia (63.3%)
• Japan (21.7%)
• Tie (15%)

Actual result: Japan won

In the only match predicted for this update, WoS failed to make an accurate prediction. We thought it would be a victory for Colombia, however it was Japan who won the game. Some may argue that the Japanese team got lucky with the early penalty and red card on the Colombian team, but I think they did display some good teamwork and grit in this game. So kudos to them. Since WoS made a wrong prediction, only 50% of the SBD + STEEM reward will be paid out to correct predictors. The remaining 50% will flow into the Grand Pool.

The Grand Pool

I have been talking about the Grand Pool since my very first post and all subsequent updates. I apologize for the lack of details on that so far and I will now provide more information on it.

As you know, in every contest, there will be a portion of rewards flowing into the Grand Pool; 10% if WoS got the prediction right and 50% if we got it wrong. At the end of the day, the Grand Pool will be used to reward the top 10 overall predictors in this series of Steem-Oracle World Cup contests.

Steem Basic Income

After much consideration, I have decided to reward top predictors in terms of SBI (Steem Basic Income) shares. Why? Because I believe that SBI is beneficial to the Steem platform in the long run so it is more meaningful to reward top predictors in SBI.

If you do not know what SBI is about, do read this post and the FAQs. It is basically a program which aims to encourage Steemians to deliver more content on the platform. Once you are part of the program, you will be upvoted by SBI accounts based on the number of shares you have. The more shares you have, the higher the value of upvote you will get. Simple.

As 1 share of SBI = 1 STEEM, I will therefore be converting all SBDs in the Grand Pool to STEEM and send out the SBI shares based on what is collected at the end. I will confirm on how the distribution of SBI shares will be for the top 10 winners at a later date. For now, I am more inclined to distribute it evenly.

The Steem-Oracle Score

The next question that I have yet to answer is how the top predictors are determined. And the answer is, they will be decided by their Steem Oracle Score 😝. Your next question is probably, "What the f**k is Steem Oracle Score!?!?". Haha.. allow me to explain.

The Steem Oracle Score (SOS) is a score assigned to individual voter using the following formula,

SOS = Total correct predictions + (Total predictions made * Accuracy^2)

This formula is designed to reward participation and accuracy in prediction with more focus on participation than accuracy. It is subject to changes in the future, but it is final for this World Cup experiment and the top 10 predictors for this series of World Cup contests will be determined based on that.

I am humbled by the fact that there are 108 Steemians who have participated in WoS so far. Thanks for contributing to the Wisdom of Steemians! You are awesome! At the current pace of contests and the volume of entries I am receiving, it is no longer sustainable to be doing everything manually. So I am working hard on automation and setting up a proper record keeping database. I am also hoping to publish a website to host these information so that we can all view the latest information as it comes, instead of having to wait for me to update.
