My Entry for Steem Monsters Rare Card Fantasy Story Contest! Week 2

Alric Stormbringer

The fog as still think as Alric awoke in his lighthouse by the sea. With a wave of his hand the candles burst into purple flame and a dim light filled the room. Alric slipped into his robes and went to sit by the window. He looked out at the sea that he had come to control. He could call forth almost any aly from the depths and yet he sat alone this morning. His mind drifted back to when he was young. When it had all begun his power over the seas. He wondered sometime if he life would be different if he hadn’t gotten on that boat. He liked to think so but he knew the power had be hiding inside him and that voyage had only brought it out.

It was noise out for how early Alric had awoke. Most people should still be sleeping he thought as he went to his window. As he opened it dread filled him. It was not early and if he didn’t make it to the docks on time today he might not get to apprentice on the ship. If he didn’t get that he might not ever get to leave this little town he was born in. He rushed out the door with a piece of bread in hand and hopped to still see the sails in the dock.

As he reached the edge of the city he could see the boat hadn’t left. But he could also tell that he wa hours late and there was a chance he would have been replaced already. He hurried up to the loading plank and ran up to report to the first mate.

“Alric reporting for duty sorry I am late had to help a old lady in the market took longer than I thought” he lied hoping for some pity.

“You lucky day Alric this town just doesn’t have enough people to replace you mind you I tried. Get over there and report to them they will show you what we need down now so we can ship off. After that you will be cleaning the captain’s privy.”

Alric didn’t care at least he was still on the boat. They worked him hard that mid morning and he did his best to take in everything they showed him. He wasn’t going to lose this chance to head out into the world. As the boat left the docks they sent him down to start cleaning. He stayed up top for a few minutes watching the town start to shrink away.

Alric did impress the men with one thing that day. They said he was born with sea legs and not once did he lose his balance or talk of feeling ill. It was turn never on any small fishing voyage had he ever felt uneasy on the water or in the water for that fact. Alric was a very good swimmer. He wasn’t even sure how long he could hold his breath as he always came up after the others but without a need.

That night as he walked on the deck looking up at the stars trying to pinpoint where he was. A calm came over him like he had never know. He felt so connected to the open sea. Soon his gaze fell down into the water. He stared starting to lose himself in the darkness when a purple light appeared. I was only there for a moment yet he could feel it. It almost felt like it was inside him now. He headed off to his bed to get some rest. He was sure they would work him just as hard tomorrow.

Alric had dreams full of visions. He could see giant spineback turtles and Crustaceans, Shark and mermaids even creatures made from ice and water. He could hear them all telling him that he world was burning. He tossed and turned as he feel deeper into the dream world. He could hear them loud now. The world was burning and he had to put it out. He had to call them force them to work together and bring the waters under his control.

The first mate woke Alric up.

“I have no idea how you are sleeping during this storm Alric but we need you up top to help bring in the sails. I have never seen anything like this the sky’s where clear and then out of nowhere storm clouds and wins as strong as I have ever felt.”

Alric couldn’t shake the dream it had felt so real and he felt different. He was worried and bit upset. What could all this mean? As he reached the deck the storm hit him right in the face and took him out of the daze he as in. He sprung to action helping the men at their task and soon as that focus drove all the fear and anger out of him the skys started to clear up again. Alric could feel them shrinking away. He started to understand that somehow they had caused that storm.

Alric went to the railing now starting to wonder again what was happening. We out of the water came over of the creatures he had saw in his dream. It looked like a man yet was made out of water. It spoke to him.

“I am a Elemental and I have come to take you to our kingdom where you belong.”

Alric looked at him and backed away at first. He spoke again.

“You saw what is coming in that dream. You know that you have powers that you must learn to control. Powers that we will need to fight back against that darkness you saw. Your life you always felt like you didn’t belong in that town. It is because you belong with us in the see.”

Alric thought back to the vision in the dream. To that darkness that was burning the lands and sea. To the power that he saw himself using to fight back. He felt the call of the water in soul and in that moment the call wa more than he could resist.

“Okay I will go with you” Alric sad reaching out his hand he was quickly lifted over the rails and into the water. As the traveled he never did need to come up for air. He was right somehow his body could breathe underwater.

As the reached the underwater kingdom he started to see more and more of the creatures from his dreams gathered. As they reached the group he could hear them wonder what human as doing down here. Others wondering how he was able to be down here. The Elemental stopped and turned to talk to a group of them.

“This is the Stormbringer. The man we have been waiting for. I have seen him summon the power of the sea and send them away even if he didn’t know he was doing it. I have seen the man he will become and can feel the magic inside of him. We will have to train him.”

Alric stood now waking out to look out the window facing the land. Yes he always would have ended up in the sea. They had trained him and then he surpassed them all. He brought frost giants to bend the knee and even the pirates that roamed the seas. He had fought countless battles to protect the seas. Waiting for the day the darkness would appear. As he looked out that window towards the mountains he could feel it. The would had changed and at last in the later years of his life he was going to fight that darkness. He was ready and as he headed away from his tower into the land to face that darkness he didn’t worry about leaving the see behind. He was now Alric Stormbringer and when he needed the sea and all the powerful creatures in it would answer his call. They would come and they would fight and Alric would make sure they won.

He was born to rule the waters
He trained to fight the darkness
He is the Stormbringer
