Does Steem monsters compete with Steemit for user time?

Lately i have been looking into the "Steem monsters" game and playing it myself. @lordbutterfly was nice enough to send over (was forced to :) ) a few of his decks so i can play a bit. And i can say it was quite enjoyable.

What i wanted to talk about for a bit here is something i have noticed with SM, and that are indications that Steem monsters might start competing with the Steemit "blogging platform" for attention. (not Steem the blockchain since SM is on Steem).
So far in my 9 months (-2) here i have seen plenty of dapps come and go, some having great success and some not so great.
@dtube might be the best example and it is one of the most successful platforms, after Steemit, built on Steem blockchain.
Sure there are issues ofc, but Dtube (with the help of Steemit.inc) has managed to do something i find to be the most important goal of Steem.
It has been greatly successful when it comes to token redistribution and creating a middle class.
With that comes an increase in the number of quality creators and creators becoming better at what they do, etc., but thats not important for my story right now.

Whats important is that Dtube brought in some new creators and it drawn a fair number of previous bloggers from Steemit to Dtube.

Will SteemMonsters do the same?

I think there is a great possibility for that but a slight difference. While creating for Dtube each of your uploads end up on your Steemit blog so your blog activity remains high, but you playing SM doesnt show up anywhere which is of course as expected so your account might start looking like mine a week ago. haha

What do i think might happen?

There is this thing with people having limited free time which they choose to allocate depending on preferences, personal satisfaction, monetary gain, socializing needs... etc.
Once they weigh what brings them most for their time invested, if they are on Steem for the long run, many of them might realize that spending time writing blogs and comments could be better spent playing Steem Monsters.
This would in no way be a bad thing since it adds a whole other layer to the Steem blockchain.

It creates options.

When someone that works hard and spends a lot of time writing their posts, finding topics, commenting and networking to get the attention on their blog, sees that they will have much more success if they just played Steem Monsters, how many might quit blogging or stop blogging as frequently?

Haha. I know it might sound silly, but i have seen so many people make a lot of money off of these cards, so how silly is it really?

Right now on SM you can earn 1-2 Steem per day (if you sell the pack unopened) from quests. You can earn many more packs every 15 days after season end. And if youre lucky opening the packs you can earn much more then that by selling the cards on the market.
It seems to me that for many of those on Steemit that earn less then 1$ on average per post and they put in a lot of work, the better way to accumulate Steem would be playing Steem Monsters. Maybe some even reach for powering down and buying cards off the market to build a deck that would earn them much more then the curation they get from the SP they now powered down? (Im reaching here a bit. haha)

I love @curie and @ocd but their upvotes are far between in most cases and if youre just someone that writes about your day or just likes to post a picture of a pretty flower you saw on the side of the road while walking to work, you will probably never get picked up by their curators.
What will get picked up are well thought out, high effort, time consuming posts and even then you might get unlucky and still earn little.

But on SM you can earn something every day, with a chance of a jackpot.
So really i do think that Steem Monsters will have an impact on the blogging going on currently.

I dont think it will have a great deal of impact, since we still are talking small numbers 1-2Steem per day but those folks with the gambling gene, :D, might just be waiting right now to start doing their quests for the shot at a Golden Legendary card that might change their prospects on Steem for good. :D

Just a few thoughts. :D

Sort:

We will see winning decks and tournaments has a far higher reward ratio than blogging for power users. While newbies will have decks to open for daily rewards and semi monthly ranking rewards.

Thats one end of the spectrum. Those with $ obviously have a much bigger chance to earn something on SM then by blogging. Thats pretty clear imo. :D
What i thought wasnt as clear is that those smaller accounts also have a much bigger chance to earn more then from blogging and thats great.

Well the only way to really earn from blogging now is to get a few pennies from SBI or post on steemhunt essentially organic views are rare with minnowbooster vote share being what most people use. Playing steemmonsters makes more sense to build minnows and dolphins than blogging does at present, only comments on whales who upvote you may be competitive.

Well there are a few people that earn a bit more here, but we are in the minority. My bf doesnt earn much from blogging here but he tripled his 200$ investment in Steem Monsters. Which is crazy.
