Steem Monsters Common Card Fantasy Story Contest! // Week 11 | Giant Roc

Drunken sailors tales should not be given any heed as Hamon Al Bahmad was sweating in the sweltering heat of grasslands. He rued the day that sailor brought to him three seemingly fossilized eggs that was big as a man's head.

Stories of these giant birds that call the skies their homes and destroyed ships without warning, swooping down and ripping mast and sails, carrying off sailors amidst their loud cries of rukk, rukk. It was both a thing of beauty and terror to see one.

Hamon took it hook, line and sinker as he listened to these stories and now found him in the edge of the world, with an almost empty pocket and none of these fantastic beasts seen.

He hired a guide who was said to have seen one carry off his horse and lived to tell the tale. Personally, he thought he got scammed and was being led to the wilderness to be robbbed and murdered. It mattered little because he was broke.

They came into a huge carcass which identified itself as an elephant because of two massive tusks. This was a large bull of an elephant and he saw that its bones were all broken. What could have made these fractures? He knew that they would fight but the injuries were far too serious. That was when the guide started running away leaving me to move forward.

He was too far in to run away from the truth of these giant birds. He took out his pipe and pinched in some tobacco to aid him in his thoughts. Then he heard a cry of rukk, rukk. and breaking the clouds above he saw a majestic creature with its massive wingspan. It's vibrant red plumage a sharp contrast to the blue sky.

He stood with his mouth open, seemingly transfixed to the ground. So this is how a rabbit feels like when seeing a hawk bearing down on it. The giant bird making the rukk sound flew fast for its size and he could feel the talons dig in, the last of his thoughts was some drunken sailor tales have some truth to it.

The Giant Roc was very pleased with herself. After dining on an elephant who tasted dry and tough having the sweet meat of these two legged creatures was such a reward. She has taken a liking to hunting these creatures whenever she can.

Aboard their wooden things with white wings that used the wind to sail in the blue seas to those bringing many of those succulent camels as they made their way to the sand dunes.

Her hunting grounds was far and wide as she was the biggest predator in these lands. The so called King of the beasts, lions quaked in their furs when she goes a hunting.

Those massive elephants are but a part of her diet as she hunted both predator and prey.

She held sway over the skies.

Clutching the two legged creature she was bringing this to her roost, for her mate of many years watching over their clutch as she hunted.

She remembered fondly each chick that hatched from her eggs and how they would be fed from her gut the partially digested elephant. They would grow strong and reign supreme in both land and air without any fear. She thought of the pride they had as top predators of these lands.

The sun was setting casting a reddish tinge in the sky. She was near her roost and she could almost hear the rukk of her mate and faint chirping of the chicks. Yet she was welcomed by silence.

Not even the insects were singing their cacophony of sound when the day ends. She saw the cliffs that she called her roost. Some parts were burnt, some with melting ice and pools of acid. The ground itself was shattered as if a huge beast fell down.

She saw her mate, his body charred, its neck dripping with acid and snapped off. She could see its liver and heart eaten and the bones of his massive wings broken and bent. He had fought bravely but whatever creature it went against clearly showed that it was stronger. Something had hunted them!

She looked around for her chicks but could not see any sign of them. No sounds, no feather left, everything gone.

She let out a sorrowful rukk and in return she heard a trumpet of a roar from a distance. Off to the east she saw a massive creature flying away, its red body almost camouflaged by the horizon bathed in red. Its white head a sharp contrast, a green head looking at another direction, its black head melding with the approaching darkness, its blue head looking in front and its red head looking back and seeing her.

She felt paralyzed as she stared into the green eyes of that red head. She saw malice in those eyes and for the first time in her life she felt fear. There was something bigger than her!

She stood there unmoving and it continued to fly away. She was not even worth pursuing it seems. For the longest time she just stood there beside her mate, the prize of the two legged creature forgotten.

It was a new surprising feeling powerless. They lorded the skies for so long but this massive creature now holds mastery in the air. She cannot do this alone. She would be no match. She made up her mind to start her journey back to the ancient roosting grounds of the Roc, the Matriarchs would need to hear of this threat. They would need all roosts to come together and hunt this five headed creature. Only by numbers would they be able to pull it down from the skies.

She will be vicious and exact her bloody vengeance for her mate. She will claw all their eyes out, slash at their throats, puncture the lungs and heart and when it is down she would eat its liver and grow stronger!

She would take her rightful place on top again once that creature is dead.

That is my tale for the Giant Roc. My entry for this week's Steem Monsters Common Card Fantasy Story Contest! // Week 11 // 10 Booster Pack Prize!

I hope that you liked the two views that I presented and how I ended it.

Very dramatic! You did a great job writing for the Giant Roc.

My favorite lines:

He hired a guide who was said to have seen one carry off his horse and lived to tell the tale. Personally, he thought he got scammed and was being led to the wilderness to be robbbed and murdered. It mattered little because he was broke.

hagd!

The carrying power this pants makes me wanting to have a couple of these in my deck to carry away the opponents creatures off the field!

Well that would be a nifty active skill that the card could have where it could potentially "banish" an enemy card.

I'm reminded of the Typhoon Summon in Final Fantasy 7 where it could blow away a character and thus making them useless in a current fight but it could not blow away boss level monsters so it could have that effect that it cannot carry off Epic level monsters.

Wow thank you so much!! that is really appreciated.

I liked the king gets clobbered, kind of "sobering" thought that there can always be someone higher on the chain. Pride in ability is one thing, pride in the ease of an ability is another, very easy to be toppled off the post if one becomes to complacent.

I kind of saw it as a cautionary tell the way you laid it out, very nicely done.

The beginning of this story reminded me of Jack and the Beanstalk.

I like the idea of bringing in another bird that was larger than the Roc. For me, that places the roc in its proper category: common.
