Weekly Steem Monster Alpha Card Report - How many more combines have happened this week?
Hello!
Welcome back to another examination of the Alpha, Regular Foil STEEM Monster card supply. I've been collecting this data for nearly 2 months now, and through that time (and the announcement of the leagues) - we've seen a steep decrease in the number of Alpha STEEM Monster cards that are available for purchase as individual units.
I'm going to change the format of presenting this data this week, again, with an interesting chart to show the distribution between Commons, Rares, Epics, and Legendaries.
It looks a little bit like this:
It's an interesting way of seeing the total distribution between commons, rares, and epics, and almost gives a stacked effect of the total card distribution. There's very few legendaries when looking at the data this way, making an epic card 5x more common, a rare 10x more common, and a common around 16-22x more common than any given legendary.
If we look at that in a pricing context, if all things considered, and all cards being equal based only upon rarity (which they're not!), that means that if a common commands a price of ten cents per card, a legendary should be worth $2.20.
This isn't the case, in the market, and certainly isn't the case when cards are actively being played. Often times, common and rare cards make up the bulk of effective teams - so it is good to see the game's use of the cards factored into price. This is most prominent by the fact that summoners are the most expensive rare cards.
Enough babbling about things that I don't truly understand, because a) I'm not an economist, and b) - I'm here to just share data. When you try to explain data, that's when you get yourself into trouble!

This graph shows that life has the highest number of individual cards available. Dragon is the rarest. Water is the most combined of any other elemental splinter.
And here is that same data based on Summoners for Alpha only, regular foil:
That's it for this week! I expect when we start to see the first Alpha only tournaments announced we'll see another steep increase in the number of alpha cards that are combined.
