holoz0r's Future Model for an independent Steem Monsters Competition

in #steemmonsters6 years ago (edited)

Hello. It's no secret that I enjoy Steem Monsters. I definitely enjoy the competitive aspect, and I know that there will be many ways for the game to be played. I want to make a suggestion below for a special sort of league that I want to host (in the future) - once we have access to a "Challenge Mode", where we can fight each other directly.

Please note, there is no competition starting yet, and this post is merely to gauge interest and feedback for such a platform.

holoz0r's Steem Monster Competition Draft Rules!

Entering and Drafting

  1. This is a paid competition. You must pay an entry fee to participate.
  2. Your entry fee will be by way of x boosters, or the equivalent amount of SBD / STEEM to purchase 10 boosters.
  3. Each competitor in the competition will be "assigned" 50 cards, taken from boosters. Card distribution is as follows:

Player 1 gets the cards from Pack 1
Player 2 gets the cards from Pack 2
...
...
Player 10 gets the cards from Pack 10
Player 1 gets the cards from Pack 11
Player 2 gets the cards from Pack 12

(and so on, until all packs and cards are assigned).

These cards are not the players property, but instead make up the prize pool.

Combat

  1. Summoners are provided by the contest host, and there will be two accounts nominated as the contest "official battle accounts".
  2. Teams are built by the players and submitted through a discord private message.
  3. Once submitted, teams are final.
  4. ContestAccount 1 and Contest Account 2 will be the "battlegrounds" (names subject to change) - and each competitor's team will fight each other comeptitor's chosen team at least once. (Cards that will be fought with will be max level cards)
  5. The team with the highest number of wins is declared the winner.
  6. In the event of a tie, a final showdown is staged.
  7. In the event of these teams being "mirrored", the two owners of the tied teams are asked to produce 1 new team and these teams are put up against each other in a final battle to determine first or second place.
  8. In the event of a tie further down the ranks, the same "shootout" occurs, with a new team to be submitted.

Prize Distribution

  1. The person who comes first chooses the first card as their prize.
  2. 2nd then chooses a card.
  3. 3rd, 4th and so on choose a card until the card supply is exhausted from the packs opened.

Logistics

The tournament would be announced, and entry fees would be collected for a period of seven days.

After those seven days have ended, a live stream commences, and the cards / packs are opened, and a post is published with the cards assigned to each player to build their team. They then have seven days to formulate their teams.

Seven days after this, another live stream commences, where the battles between players are televised, and a "live ladder" is build as battles unfold.

A winner is declared, and the cards are selected by the winners, live until all are distributed.

Discussion Points

The idea of a tournament in this format is that it promotes:

  • Selection of a well rounded team, based on the cards you obtained through a "sealed booster" format, with the cards remaining in the custody of the contest owner for the duration of the contest
  • A level playing field for all contestants, on the basis of battles will unfold using max level decks held on accounts owned by the contest organizers.
  • Prize distribution is fair. Based on who comes first, they are able to select the most valuable card that is revealed through the pack opening stream.
  • All players obtain prizes, equal to the value of their initial buy in (x boosters worth of x cards). (Higher placed characters can obviously choose what cards they want first, leaving lower ranked players with "other" prizes as their choice from the card pool.

This format intends to emulate drafting, and in addition, allows for player engagement, as well as an audience for Steem Monsters battles. This format would be dependent on the "challenge" feature being available at a future time, and buy-in from the competitive steem monster community.

Players would also not need to fund themselves for these tournaments, they could be sponsored by another Steemian, for those who wish to speculate upon any individual player's skill who does not wish to pay an entry fee.

I'd love to hear the thoughts of the Steem Monsters community on my proposed format.

Sort:

I like it. It would be a very difficult competition, but I still like it.

I like the idea a lot, I think away to make the buy in smaller (and so appeal to a wider audience) could be through an account having a set deck and a computer randomly assigning the cards to players who play through a proxy account (owned by the card owner) which then returns the cards to the owner once the tournament is complete.

  • It would require trusted randomness (I think you can get that from stuff like the hash of the last bitcoin block, but I'm not tech wiz)
  • It would also require an account owned by a trusted community member with a fair amount of each type of cards that follows the rough distribution of packs, this could be achieved through say 1000+ packs opened and not traded through the account, the more the better and more packs could be opened as the account develops.
  • The account owner could then set entry fees to make an ROI and say 90% of these could be the prize pool, 10% to the owner/owners. The account owner would not loose any cards so running a tournament would be relatively cheap, especially if it was quite an automated system. It would be cheap entry as well so people could participate in multiple tournaments a day

Just thinking of a way for more people (like me) with not a great deal of money to play

Sounds not bad :)

buy in Tournaments should be nice in the future too

The other intention of this is that buying the boosters as part of the competition creates demand for new packs (and will consequently increase the value of prize pools for daily and weekly tournaments).

Thanks for your comments on this post! :)

sure i like the idea :)

It's like looking in a mirror. Hehe. SK.

The Silvershield Knight is one of my favourite cards :D He's pretty rambunctious, however. Not a sombre horse in the house.

All us Knights play hard Holoz0r 😉

I'd play that. Not well, but I'd play :)

It sounds like a good idea. I think it's worth a try when the challenge mode goes online.

It's definitely a thing to look for. I think most of these mechanics could be well implemented into the game for an all new mode to play. Some people will love it and some people will stay away from it, but I think that at this point, anything new the game puts out is a bonus.
