Steemmonsters conflict & meta talk #2

Every 48 hours @steemmonsters are changing the rules of how much mana and even what monsters you can bring to a fight. That means the meta will always be changing and it can be hard to keep up with what works and what don't. This is usually the most interesting part of @steemmonsters since I love theory-crafting and that goes for every game I have ever played.

Personally, I love to play a bit around with new setups when the rules are changing and usually I end up with some pretty good results. It actually seems like I spend more time finding out the setup I want than actually playing and when I find a build that fits I usually play some games and then wait for the next "conflict change".

So I am now dedicating a series to this exact purpose: a place to discuss the current meta of steemmonsters!

My team build for current conflict


This time was quite different from the others. Since summoners don't play a role in this conflict it was easy to see that picking the summoners that costs less was ideal for the situation. With 27 mana cap it felt a lot like sometimes some of the setups I tried ran out of space.

Win rate(out of 10 games): 8/10

Verdict: Since my main account is at diamond league and I seem to not being able to progress simply because I don't have level 10 cards like these guys up here does. So I started playing on a "lower level account". This setup utilizes the fact that Kiara is cheaper so I have even more mana to play with. With a strong frontline and hell a lot of range damage in the back I seemed to be melting anything that stood in my way. I think this setup could also work out with higher level cards.


What is team build are you using in the current conflict?


A am in a bit of a funny spot where I cannot progress in my leagues anymore because of simply my highest level cards cannot compete against those pesky max level summoners. So instead of investing too much money, I thought just playing at lower leagues with my other accounts to try things out.

Did you play in this conflict and in that case, what did you choose as you "go-to-team"?

I really want to like this game, but I am feeling a bit underwhelmed at the moment. I would really like to see the cards gain some kind of stats from usage. This may be in the works and perhaps I am a bit out of the loop.

I feel like too much effort is being put into marketing and selling more cards, but not enough into making it more fun. I will probably be hated for saying anything negative about Steem's #1 baby but just getting it out there. Who knows, maybe in a couple of months it will be awesome!

no actually it is true. Your monsters do get stats when leveling but sadly the only way is by combining cards(aka buy more) to level up. also why I am stuck in Diamond. Oh well, at least I am getting 20 free packs at the end of this season(got two account at diamond lol).

I agree with you though, a lot of improvements are needed to make all this a little more playable!

Yeah, I knew about combining but I was under the impression that you'd be able to level them up by playing... I could swear that I read that somewhere some months back. haha oh well.

I think they chose not to do it because of... preventing bot farming? (since each card has a value to it) and then instead give more packs out or something... I still think that might not be a right call since the leagues are just straight up too much pay to win at the moment or as they call it... "investment". Since you can always sell your cards later given someone wants to buy it.

I wish ranked was a bit more fair minded and competitive.

Yeah, I think that is where I am at. I was hoping that maybe my cards would be worth something someday. I doubt it since the game will be endlessly diluted with new cards.
