Let's Talk Steem Monsters + Giveaway Results (Only 3 contestants)
After having had the time to sit down and browse the SteemMonsters website I noticed the rewards system! I am certainly glad that I am getting in on the earliest of battles!

Being A Part of the First Season of SM!
It feels good to be able to say I participated (and will benefit, via rewards) for the first season of Steem Monsters. With only 5 days left, I am excited to keep the battles going but I've definitely hit a small cap for my rating. Which only means one thing -- I need to throw more money at aggroed and matt and get me some more packs. So far I am in the Silver III division and looking to receive 4 free packs. Would be nice to get something very rare and expensive with rewards from playing the game! I've been battling both at home and at work, any chance I get I'm smacking that battle button! Caught myself spending too much time on the phone today at work even! It's pretty addicting so far for something that doesn't require me to even pay attention during battles (although I find it hard not too -- and typically won't skip to the end!)
Don't plan on trading any time soon so my main focus is just having one good team. I'm a bit of a HODL'er so I'm curious to see where HODL'ing SM cards will get me in the future.

Let's get to it -- The Giveaway
A few days ago I opened 110 Alpha Packs and 110 Beta Packs Live on vimm.tv with the intentions to give away 1 alpha pack and 1 beta pack to two lucky Steemians. There wasn't really any participation so I left it open to the comments.
Since I did end up opening the packs, I'll just give away 5 alpha cards and 5 beta cards instead of what came in a pack. There were three people who wanted free stuff and I'll run the drawing via elimination.
It's a battle of luck and randomness between:
Numbers chosen were given in the order that they commented!
First round is a random number between 1 - 3 via random.org. The winning number will be the winner of 5 alpha cards. The remaining two will move on to Round 2 where it will be a 50/50 chance for 5 beta cards.

As for me, I really like opening booster packs... you never know what you're going to get, but an array of 110 is extra fun and I'm guaranteed a few great cards! I'll definitely be buying another 100 soon!

When I joined Steemit I made the decision to always Power-Up my earnings. For now, payouts are set to 50/50 but you bet I will convert & Power Up! Besides internal transfers, I have never cashed out and don't plan on it! Power-Up only!

I haven't traded at all yet. I think I am saving that for later. For now, stacking cards is my primary objective.

I would prefer to trade on the market to get cards of my choice to level up and have stronger chances of winning the battles.

Yes, agree with you.
But there are drawbacks of not buying the booster packs, as there might be a chance of winning a gold or higher level cards, but it's like a lottery. Not sure which pack contains those ;).
I am happy buying the required cards and at the same time don't miss an opportunity to buy packs whenever I have some spare SBD/Steem.
It has been easier for me to make usd than steem so I've been endulging :)
Steem/sbd is power up only. I haven't traded yet though. Eventually I am sure I will but I also want to have an arsenal of cards for more future giveaways.
I'm a gambler so its packs for me.
Booster packs 100% for me so far. Maybe I'll trade after beta!

I love to open booster packs, but apart from a legendary spirit of the forest and 1 rare GF paladin, nothing worth noting came out... yet! ;) Buying selected on the market is great to give that small needed boost. I am hoping for the season end, got to silver I so far, so 6 packs to try my luck!
I just noticed the rewards a day or two ago. I'm excited as well to get $12 worth of free packs (I too hit Silver I today)
