Remaining Vigilant in a World of Constant Noise and Threats
Well, there's a new bug going around.
No it's not the flu.
No it's not something that will get you sick.
It's something that could infect your devices and potentially use your processing power to run a malware program that mines crypto currency.
The analysts revealed that Skidmap masks its cryptocurrency mining by utilizing a rootkit, which is a program that installs and executes code on a system without end user consent or knowledge. This makes its malware components undetectable by the infected system’s monitoring tools.
Such a program could be very dangerous. Not just because it can potentially use your machine as a pesonal mining rig (of which, you get no rewards), but also because it can actually allow the attacker to do anything they want on your device.
In August, cybersecurity company McAfee Labs released a threat report, in which it noted an increase in cryptojacking campaigns and ransomware attacks in Q1 2019. According to the report, cryptojacking has been on the rise, with a 29% increase in cryptojacking campaigns.
This is scary stuff and before you think that security is getting better than ever, realize that cryptojacking campaigns are on the rise and will probably get more vicious as time goes on.
Stay safe and informed! Some reports are saying that this amount of crypto hijacking is up 29-50%! It's absolutely insane and there are many devices of which we have no idea that are affected by these various malware programs.
