A Quick “French Apple Tart” Dessert Recipe
Welcome to:
An apple a day keeps that doctor away!
Yeah, we are all familiar with that saying.
Last night, I was hungry after watching a horror movie on Netflix. Darn that movie and when I check out the fridge, there was no snack bars left, only apples and an apple alone won’t fill me so I decided to bake something, apple tart. I’m glad I still have some of the needed ingredients left in the cupboard.
French apple tart has three parts but it’s easy to make. You will need a pastry dough for the crust, apple e juice or purée (homemade or store store bought), slices of apples and sweeteners like cinnamon and honey for the filling. Any kinds of apple will do. I had two granny smith apples and one fuji but I really prefer the fuji for apple tart as it has more sweetness and I just love the red color (lol). Others like their apples for this recipe to be peeled but I prefer it unpeeled. Aside from it’s just more time consuming (and I’m hungry), apple‘s skin layer called exocarp will add hue after baking and I don’t want to get rid of it’s nutrient contents (vitamin A, C, E, fiber). You can also go for a sugar-free by using honey. Below is the ingredients and how I made it.
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Baking Time: 35minutes
Total Time: 45-50 minutes
Serving: 2
Ingredients
- pastry dough
- 500 ml water
- 300 ml apple purée
- 3 medium-size apples
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 2-4 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoon yogurt
- Vanilla ice cream (optional)
Direction
- Tart Crust: Preheat the oven to 180 Celcius. Gently place the dough into the baking glass pan. Press the dough against the baking pan and poke the base. (This will prevent the pastry from puffing while baking. You can bought a ready made pastry dough or make it yourself.) Pre bake for 15 minutes.
- For Apple Sauce: while pre-baking the crust, slice the two apples into thin slice and the other one into cubes. Combine the apple cubes in a bowl with honey and ground cinnamon. In a saucepan, boil the water over medium heat. Cover and cook for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the apples are finally soft then mash with a fork or potato masher.
- Apple Filling/Topping: Transfer the apple purée on the baking glass pan. Arrange the apple slices over the apple purée.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the apples are soft but not mushy. Let it cool before serving or refrigeration and that’s it!
I had more slices earlier topped with extra love (💁🏻♀️vanilla ice cream!).
I love that taste of the apple and cinnamon combination with a bit of crisp and it’s light and healthy.
