Ok everyone, just in case you still don't know, I became a billionaire overnight last week, and made wonderful plans about how I was going to spend all that money.

So I had a long list - Many of my family and friends would benefit and I was going to hit the shops and spend spend spend! Travel plans to weird and wonderful destinations definitely were on the cards!

But then reality hit as my Steemit wallet was squandered by some unknown entity and I was a pauper again!

So now what were we going to eat as I had spent every last cent in anticipation of all these billions coming to me...wink wink wink...?
The refrigerator was bare...the pantry had been stripped and all I could find was a tiny little can of lightly smoked Scottish Sild Sardines, some Flour and Yeast, one Tomato, some Mayo and Spring Onions growing in my herb garden :)
So I quickly kneaded some bread dough to make lovely fresh buns with a sprinkling of Chia Seeds on top.

I will tell you a little about my Sardine love story - when I was pregnant with my first baby, I could not get enough of Sardines, Tomatoes & Onion Sandwiches. Hubby had to drive around one night trying to find Sardines at late night cafes as I had run out, and he did this without complaining.
Many expectant mothers will know from experience, a woman expecting her first baby is treated like porcelain by the fathers-to-be and us womenfolk are crafty and let them believe that we indeed have to be coddled :)
But come the second pregnancy and they know for sure they'd been hoodwinked and you can forget about being treated with kid gloves!

Back to today and how I made my Sardine Sandwich now that I'm no longer an overnight tycoon.

I still love Sardines, they're good for us as well - loaded with Omega 3 fatty acids which help prevent heart disease due to their anti-inflammatory properties, excellent source of Vitamin B12, Calcium and Protein, so make sure you keep a couple of those little cans in your pantry!

INGREDIENTS
Burger Buns
Knead the following together, let it rise, divide into 8 pieces & roll into round balls,brush with milk and dip into Chia seeds, flatten slightly. Let it rise again & bake at 180C for around 15 min.

  • 3 1/2 cups Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Yeast
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 cup lukewarm Water
  • 1 tablespoon Yeast

FILLING

  • 1 can lightly smoked Scottish Sild Sardines
  • 1 Tomato, sliced
  • Spring Onions, finely diced
  • Mayonnaise

Method
Cut rolls in half, lightly butter & spread mayo on one half

Yes we were all rich for a day, weird feeling right? Oh what we could have done with it, lol Love the pregnancy stories...sardines were your cravings, I craved burgers! Couldn't get enough of them! Those buns look amazing...what a wonderful bit of sandwich heaven!

I just can't go down that tin can road of small fish, especially on a sandwich but to each their own and if you love it go ahead and eat it. I will just upVote and move on, the next person can have my sandwich.

Okay, so I went and looked, of course another sandwich pusher is going to say how great it is. I know you two are the queens of the sandwich mafia and have each others back, that was a comment, not the Steem Engine itself making a remark. Well, let me rethink that for a moment. I guess if it made the Daily Whistle Stops that in itself is a testament for just how good the post and the sandwich is, so I'll give you credit for creating a good sandwich in most peoples opinion, I guess I am the oddball in this one.

You're going to make me fat @lizelle! Actually I'm not that keen on sardines, but this looked so delicious that I made a small one using some smoked mackerel, and substituting capers for the spring onions, as I didn't have any. Also I added a bit of mustard, as I'm a mustard freak! Mmm.

Haha @natubat, smoked mackerel sounds great, you should have entered it into @jaybird's sandwich contest, only need a validation sign ;)

It’s funny, despite this being a popper style sandwich I actually love all of these ingredients.

Sardines, onions... i love it.

Bun looks tasty too! I bet that you could be given some of the worst ingredients to work with and still come up with an excellent piece lizelle..

I've never had sardines before.... but I would probably try it on a sandwich like this. Not sure if I would enjoy the salty fish flavor though
