Steemit Sandwich Contest Week #66 | Street Food! Beer Steamed Polish Kielbasa with Sauerkraut

Hello My fellow Sandwich Foodies!


This week many of our Steemian friends have been in Krakow Poland enjoying SteemFest3! I hope you all had a chance to listen to @ned’s Keynote speech! He had a lot to share and it sounds like great things are on the horizon for the Steemit blockchain in 2019.


While I’m sure you’re all having a fabulous time at SteemFest, we all realize you all have to eat! Well, good news, @jaybird is looking out for you. He has challenged us to share a special Krakow Sandwich! Thanks @jaybird for a great assignment for week 66 of the Steemit Sandwich Contest! Our fellow Steemians will love you for this!


Street food is popular all over the world these days and Krakow is no different! Burgers, Pizzas and Rueben sandwiches are all popular street food in Krakow. Kebabs and pretzels, so much to choose from.


I’m sure our SteemFest foodies are sampling all of these local Polish goodies!

How about Beer Steamed Polish Kielbasa with Sauerkraut?


The word Kielbasa means Sausage! Kielbasa or sausage is a staple in Poland and is made smoked or fresh and served hot or cold! Kielbasa can be made using pork, beef, chicken, turkey, lamb or veal! Kielbasa with sauerkraut is a popular traditional dish served at Polish weddings!


Well… enough talk! Let’s cook


I made the Kielbasa rolls earlier today, separated the dough into 6 rolls and covered them to let them have time to rise!


I used

  • Bread Flour
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt
  • Yeast
  • Maple Syrup
  • Filtered water

Kielbasa

I used

  • Polish Kielbasa
  • Organic Fresh Cured Sauerkraut
  • Marjoram
  • Bay Leaf
  • Mustard Seed
  • Pepper
  • Onion
  • Garlic Cloves
  • Djon Mustard
  • Pickled Mushrooms (garnish)
  • Mr. Bird’s Berliner Blut Craft Beer

Yes, you read that correctly, Mr. Bird makes a tasty craft beer and we thought this would be a wonderful addition to our sandwich today!

This beer, Berliner Blut is amazing. It is a double smoked red ale, both sweet and bitter with aromas of carmel, lemon, bergamont and orange peel.


We start by quickly browning the Kielbasa in a deep saucepan. When it’s nicely browned pour ¼ cup beer into the saucepan and saute slightly.

  • Chop the onion and garlic.

Now add the onion and garlic and all other spices along with 2 cups of beer to the Kielbasa. Bring to a boil, cover and lower heat to simmer for 15 minutes. While the Kielbasa was cooking I sauted additional onion rings in Olive Oil until they were translucent and lightly golden. I warmed the Sauerkraut and now we're ready to assemble!


Garnish with a few Pickled Mushrooms and Enjoy!

Mr Bird's beer is perfect with that sandwich! My son also is a keen craft beer brewer, not keen on commercial beers at all!
