Steemit Photo Challenge 16 - Food - Entry

Entry #1
Grilled Ayu, at an open air restaurant in Osaka!

Entry #2
Nanking Cherry, harvested right off the tree I have next to my house!
They're a bit tart but excellent for making jam, or eating as is with ice cream!

Entry #3
Absinthe! The Green Fairy has almost as many myths and rituals surrounding it as Fairies from folklore do.
Made from Wormwood, Anise, Fennel and other herbs it is quite potent and deceptively easy to drink. You won't hallucinate though, that's just a myth.

This particular glass was served with caramelized sugar, burned directly over the glass using the high alcohol content of the Absinthe, then cut with distilled water, poured through the sugar cube and slotted silver spoon. The result is a very refreshing slightly cloudy drink. I suppose you could drink it straight but that'd be rather rough.

The 1st and 3rd impages look so warm and inviting! It's hard to get photos in building, I think, where you don't have control of the light, the background, or even the angles. So that first shot is especially great -- and it's neat to see how they are cooking the fish, too. :D

Thanks! The lighting and composition isn't totally out of one's control, though it can be a bit difficult in crowded venues. I think that both of those pictures contain fire helps with the warmth in the color palette.

You're welcome - and thanks for the tip about the fire. That should give us all some ideas for what makes a good opportunity for a photo.

The first photo is my favourite looks like a restaurant we'd like to visit
the fish roasting looks so appetising

Yes that's exactly the idea, it was set up at the outside corner of the restaurant precisely to entice customers. Much better than a garish sign in my opinion!

@mweich - you're a photo magician!

Thank you for the great compliment! @englishchrivy

That first shot is an amazing environmental food shot! Love the composition and the story it tells :)

Thank you, I knew when I spotted the fish that it would be a good photo if I managed to capture it well. Happily, I was able to get the light levels on the fish and the charcoal without having something else get blown out. :)

Wow... the Japanese BBQ if I could call it that is something. Great shot.

Thanks @ace108, there are a few recipes or cooking styles like this, mostly for cooking short chicken skewers called yakitori, or fish. I'm sure it's a popular method to use when camping too!

Camping, yes. That will be normal but the yakitori I've seen around town are mostly chicken and some pork perhaps.

Well, "yakitori" literally means "grilled bird", so most would indeed be chicken. Often, the skewers are grilled over a long narrow grill with charcoal, though in some places the would use gas. Best part is, it's relatively cheap and very tasty!

Thanks for the clarification

Interesting variety of photos!!

Variety is best when eating! :)

That glass looks amazing

Oh, it was. Beautiful in a heavy antique way, it felt good just as good to hold as it did to look at!

Great shots. Particularly the first and the last photo. Quite a range of diverse compositions, you have there, but they work out. :) Good luck

Thank you!

MMMmmm....roast fish great with fluffy rice.

It certainly is!
