Cormorant Fisherman on the Lijiang River - SteemitPhotoChallenge Entry

Emotive Human Portrait - Cormorant Fisherman

Dear fellow Steemians!

I submit those three photos to this week's Steemit Photo Challenge with the topic "Emotional B&W portraits" hosted by @jamtaylor.

I know that I posted several images about my fisherman photo shoot already. Here is a set of three B&W portraits. The fisherman showed such a great sense a calmness and happiness.

The story behind the photos:
We visited a longstanding friend of mine in Beijing last year. His girlfriend visited in late May last year and asked, if we wanted to visit them the summer. We had about 6-7 weeks for the visa do get approved, all the planning, flights and so on. Actually that is not the kind of traveling my wife and I do.

But guess what: It was one of the best trips we ever had!

Fishing without a rot, hook and bait is the peculiarity of the Cormorant fishermen. It's said that the tradition goes back about 1000 years. There are several other countries like Japan, Greece or Peru.
Actually nowadays the fishermen can't feed their families by just fishing because of several reasons like lower numbers of fish in the river and pollution of the water. They do take advantage of the growing tourism in the area and perform as models during photo shoots with tourists to earn money for living.

The landscape was just breathtaking and I wish I had the chance for another shoot early in the morning with the rising sun in the back. Thanks to our tour guide George and the amazing fisherman!

That are breathtaking photos :-) maybe fishermans are like a musicians... very often lot of them can't feed their families just by music ;-) nice post, thanks!

I didn't think about this comparison but it's really true! Thanks for your compliment:)

You welcome :-)

Awesome shots! Love learning more about the stories behind photos too!

Thank you @skiesandsports! Such an honor that a professional photographer like you likes my photos!!! 😃😃😃 Have a great weekend.

These are beautiful portraits! I particularly like the third one. You found such a great model ;)

Also, interesting story. I guessed most of these fishermen posed for photos for money, but I didn't know much else about their lives. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for your comment! The photos turned out really great.
I didn't even know this kind of fishing existed before our trip to china. But I guess the economical changes are found all over the world. Even in the smallest villages and weirdest professions.

Wow these are seriously stunning images! Did you also get to see the fisherman fish with the cormorants?
Incredibly jealous you got to travel there and take some amazing images back with you!

Thanks for you compliment. Yes I got some images. They were tied up to his little boat. So they weren't flying around and fished. It was such a great experience. Can't remember a place and shooting with brought so much fun and had a beautiful scenery.
Have a great weekend!

Well, I am impressed to say the least, black and white color here, good idea. This man looks so cool, and those birds, his lamp, nature around. Waiting for more

Thanks for you compliment. It was a perfect setting for great images;)

Cool shots of the cormorant fisherman! That region of Lijiang river is quite touristic, but for a good reason I believe - I enjoyed it a lot during my stay there despite the crowds. :)

Thanks:)
Actually there were areas which were way more crowded that the Lijiang river during our China trip. Especially the Zhangjiajie National Park! It was the horrible to say it in a polite way.

The first image is great! Looks a little bit like a painting...

Thanks a lot. Yes, I didn't think about it that way. Maybe because of the fuzziness in the background. Have a great weekend:)

Very well done black and white portraits!

Thanks a lot!

Wonderful photos! We were there several years ago on a 2 week 'see most of China' bus tour, and this area was one of the highlights. Thanks for showing me something we didn't see! Following.

Thank you for your kind comment. This area was really special. Have a great week.
