Photo - 'Run, Baby, Run!' by Jay Taylor, my #1 in SteemitPhotoChallenge #10 - Minimalism

This is my first entry into a SteemitPhotographyChallenge - and I have to say I think it's one of the hardest challenges to date to fulfil! It's not until you start thinking minimalist that you realise how hard it is to follow the 'less is more' approach!

This image was created especially for SteemitPhotographyChallenge #10 - Minimalism. I set up a length of polycarbonate roofing sheet that was lying around the place, which I thought provided a nice, minimalistic background and a nice contrast with the green of the grass. The lighting wasn't the best - I'd have liked a bit of sunshine, but this IS England after all ;o) The following day it rained all day, though, so it's a good job I went ahead and shot anyway...

I took around 400 shots of our mixed flock of chickens in burst mode at 1/640 second shutter speed, hoping to freeze the action whilst retaining just the slightest hint of movement... I didn't want the resulting images to look too static - the hint of movement created a dynamic that lends the shot a bit of story.

14-year-old,unschooled Raven helped make the magic happen, by steering our flock of feathered friends in the right direction. As I lay on the ground shooting (a risky business in a field full of chickens and chicken shit!), most of them paraded in front of the polycarbonate sheet at some point!

We then trawled through those 400+ shots together, looking for a stand-out. It was a REALLY tough choice (we have some right characters!) but in the end, we felt that this shot of 8-week-old Dark Brahma girl Khadijah just shone...and let's be honest, when fishing for votes, who doesn't love a chick?!

Cool photo @jaytaylor he looks like a soldier ready for war ...so confident so strong!

These little guys are SO awesome, honestly - really the coolest, toughest, most adventurous chicks ever. And when she's fully grown, she'll be a REALLY big girl! Brahmas... Gotta love 'em! :o)

Thank you - this little one is already a BIG character! I'm so lucky to have such great 'models' :o)

lol, buff chicken :p

Buff little chicken ;0) I actually love how she looks like a Mini-Me of her Mum on this shot...Khaddie is actually only 8 weeks old, so she only stands about 8" tall at present (most of it legs, I might add!) Thanks for the upvote!

This ought to win first, second and third with how long it took us to put together. LOOOOOL

Very funny, hunny ;o) P.S. You should totally enter this competition - you're an awesome photographer! xx
