SteemitPhotoChallenge #48 The Ocean: Entry 3 – Cebu Tumbuli Plane Wreck with Jen

20170219_0072w.jpg

The Tumbuli plane wreck likes approximate 18-20m underwater near the shoreline of Tambuli Beach Resort in Mactan, Cebu - Philippines and has been placed there to form an artificial reef and also to attract divers.
Though this one on purpose you will find many wrecks scattered across the ocean floors with many having great stories of how they came to be.

Photographed with a Canon 5DmIII, 16-35mm f4L IS, Ikelite housing and red magic filter.
Exposure 1/200sec @ f4, ISO2000.

Ive been shooting models underwater as part of a self funded personal art project which always seeks support to continue on.
Our model Jen Dnyz Penid is a qualified scuba diver who was brave enough to try this shoot wearing a dress and weightbelt underneath. We have scuba divers as part of the crew behind the scenes assisting her the entire time and she takes of her mask and regulator prior to the shot being taken and then given back by the assisting diver. It takes a lot of skill and especially 20m underwater.

I bet you have a lot of WWII era planes in your area. I would love to come visit someday. Perhaps cryptocurrencies will help me retire with funds for traveling the world.

Only if we got in earlier with the crypto currencies it would have helped a lot.
Plenty of WWII wrecks can be dived in at Subic Bay in Luzon and in Coron in Palawan region of Philippines.

Love underwater shots. You have quite a lot of light to bring out the colors considering it is 20 meters under water. The water must be insanely clear to let that much light through.

I love shooting underwater in the Philippines and my worst dive there still beats my best dive back at home in Sydney where average is around 5-8m of visibility and 10m on a good day. In philippines have experience a lot at 20-50m range which is why I keep going back there. At 20m under we are shooting fairly low light and its full tropical sunlight at the surface. The red magic filter kills off about 2 stops of light on top but without it the heavily blue bias will kill off being able to recovery anything in the other channels. Camera raw files also hold a lot of data which gives more to work with - if it was shot as jpg there's no way I could get as much colours back.

Thank for extensive explanation. It makes sense now. Used to do diving, and enything under 20 meters just lost the color pretty much. Did not have a chace to do underwater photography though..

WOW stunning picture, makes me wish I could take underwater photos, but I don't have water resistant camera hehehe XD
