To understand the meaning of softmetal, you need some basic knowledge of Chinese fortune-telling. In Chinese, we call it Suan Ming. Here is a nice Wikipedia page about Chinese fortune-telling. One of most popular methods in Chinese fortune-telling is Ba Zi. This is what is written on Wikipedia.

Bazi (八字) - This method is undoubtly the most popular of Chinese Fortune Telling methods, and the most accessible one. It has many variants in practice the most simple one called: "Ziping Bazi" 子平八字, invented by Master Ziping. Generally it involves taking four components of time, the hour of birth, day, month and year. Each a pillar from the Sixty Jiazi and arranging them into Four Pillars. The Four Pillars are then analyzed against the Daymaster, the Heavenly Stem for the Day pillar. It is a form of Astrology as opposed to Fortune Telling or Divination, and tells one about his or her destiny in life, current situation and area for most successful occupation. Originally Bazi was read against the Year Earthly Branch, then focus shifted to the Month Pillar, then finally Master Xu Ziping refined and remade the system to use the Heavenly Stem of the Day Pillar as the emphasis and focus in reading. The practice for reading against the Year Branch is the origin of the popular Chinese Horoscopes for your Year of Birth.

Let me try to make it clear. One of the information that Ba Zi fortunate-telling needs is the year, month, day, and hour of your birth (in lunar calendar). Among them, the day of your birth is the most important. I am not an expert in Ba Zi. I cannot tell how important the day of your birth is. But roughly speaking, it represents the fortune of yourself. The next step is to convert the year, month, day, and hour of your birth (in lunar calendar) into Tian Gan (Heavenly Stems) and Di Zhi (Earthly Branches). Each Tian Gan and Di Zhi are then converted to Wu Xing (Five Elements): Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. In addition, each of the Five Elements has two ‘types’, Yin and Yang. If you are getting confused at this point, let’s take the year 2018 as an example. In the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches, the year of 2018 is Xin Hai. Xin is the Heavenly Stems, and is Metal, and is Yin. In another word, Xin is Yin Metal.

Next, I need to explain Yin and Yang a little bit more. To make it easier, you can just think sun as Yang and moon as Yin, sky as Yang and ground as Yin, male as Yang and female as Yin, and hard as Yang and soft as Yin.

At this point, you probably already know where @softmetal comes from. Yes, I was born in the day of Xin. As discussed above, Xin is Yin Metal. Since Yin can be thought as soft. Now, we have @softmetal!

softmetal怎么来的，其实就是从八字来的。八字命理学是我中华传统文化，不管你信也好，不信也好，大概了解一下一些关于八字的基础知识总是没有坏处的。我不是专业算命人士，所以只能做如下粗浅解释。别看上面一大段英文吓死人，其实用中文说就几行字解决问题。

把你出生的年，月，日，时（按农历算）想象成四根柱子，这就是四柱。年，月，日，时又可以转换成天干和地支。比如2018是辛亥年，辛是天干，亥是地支。所以年，月，日，时各有一个天干和一个地支，一共就是八个，这就是八字。然后天干地支又有阴阳之分，比如甲和乙五行都是木，但甲是阳木，乙是阴木。四柱之中最重要的日柱，你看看你自己的日柱在五行中是什么属性，你就知道你自己是什么命了。比如我们有时候说，水命的女人如何如何，这里的水命的意思就是这个人日柱的五行属性是水。

本人日柱的天干是“辛”。辛的五行是金，属阴。所谓天为阳，地为阴；日为阳，月为阴；硬为阳，软为阴。本人天生是个“软金”，就只好softmetal了。
