Drug abuse and it's effects

Drugs are physical substances either solid or liquid, taken into the body orally or injected in order to treat illness, modification, of the body system, eradicate harmful organisms that are present withing the body and could cause havoc to the system. Drugs could be used as disinfectants, pain relieves or anti bacterials.

Some type of drugs include;

• Stimulants (Caffeine, Amphetamine etc.)
• Alcohol (found in beer)
• depressants ( barbiturates, benzodiazepines etc.)
• cannabis (marijuana, hashish)
• Steroids, narcotics (paracetamol), Tramadol etc

All this mentioned above can be taken in injected or orally.

Stimulants are substances which increases alertness in the nervous system. It reverses tiredness from the body. Narcotics are pain relieving substances, it serves as sedatives and could alter mood or behavior. Antibiotics are substances that prevents and treats bacterial infections.

Steroids are muscles, strength and size increasing drugs. It could also be injected or taken orally. Depressants are drugs that relieves stress and causes sleep. It relaxes the body.
Alcohol is an intoxicant. It is produced from starch, sugar and yeast.

Some drugs are legal in the society, while some on the other hand are not. Some unacceptable drugs include; cannabis such as marijuana, and stimulants such as cocaine. These drugs are illegal in the society because they are misused by individuals and has a negative effect on the individual their families and the society.

Drugs are used to alter the body system both mentally and physically. The level drug intake and usage determines how the drugs affects the body in a positive or negative way. The misuse of drugs by self administration without medical justification or advice from a medical personnel is called Drug abuse.

Some legal pain relieves are often abused by individuals in the society. Some examples are panadol and Tramadol. Individuals take in panadol at the slightest pain they feel without medical jurisdiction, Tramadol is also taken by youths in order to release tension or anxiety.

The aftermath of drug abuse is drug addiction. Drug addiction is the constant desire to use a drug. Some people become devoted to a particular drug and depend wholly on them. Drug addiction can also be seen as a situation whereby individuals are mentally, psychologically and physically dependent on drugs. These individuals are known as drug addicts. Drug abuse and drug addiction has different effects on individuals, families and society. Wrong usage of drugs impact negative effects. Drug addiction on the other hand leads to mental disorder such as madness, cocaine usually affects the brain hence leading to physiological damage.

The abuse of drugs by youths may lead to change in attitude of individuals or negative behaviors. Poor academic performance is one of the effects of drug addiction.Individuals who engage in drug abuse may practices violent practices in order to earn money to acquire more drugs such as kidnapping, armed robbery and ritualism.

Hiv/Aids could also be transmitted through the use of infected needles. Some drug addicts who use drugs such as cocaine, could inject it into their body. This could result to high risk of Hiv transfer if safety precautions or measures are not taken.

The use of hard drugs and alcohol before driving could lead to accidents because the individual will not be in the correct state of mind. Also pregnant women who are drug addicts may give birth to babies with low weight. The drugs taken could affect the babies carried by their mothers.

Drug abuse also causes health hazards such as hepatitis, liver problems, lung problems, heart attack and brain damage. Drug addicts could also due after a period of time, due to the various effects of drug abuse/ addiction, the aftermath of it all is death.

The best solution is to obtain from the use of harmful/ addictive or illegal drugs and take precautions while handling legal drugs. A preventive major is to always take drugs according to the prescription of a medical personnel. Also, another way to avoid drug abuse/addiction is by educating the public (public enlightenment ) concerning drugs, it's usage and effects if abused.
